Ratios compare quantities
They are usually writtenin their simplest form.
eg: Simplify the ratio 4 : 10
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 2, to give:
2 : 5
2 is the biggest number which
goes into both of these numbers
Ratios compare quantities
They are usually writtenin their simplest form.
eg: Simplify the ratio 10 : 25
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 5, to give:
2 : 5
5 is the biggest number which
goes into both of these numbers
Ratios compare quantities
They are usually writtenin their simplest form.
eg: Simplify the ratio 15 : 21
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 3, to give:
5 : 7
3 is the biggest number which
goes into both of these numbers
Ratios compare quantities
They are usually writtenin their simplest form.
eg: Simplify the ratio 8 : 18
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 2, to give:
4 : 9
2 is the biggest number which
goes into both of these numbers
Ratios compare quantities
They are usually writtenin their simplest form.
eg: Simplify the ratio 35 : 56
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 7, to give:
5 : 8
7 is the biggest number which
goes into both of these numbers
To make comparisons,we can write ratiosin the form 1 : n.
eg: Write the ratio 4 : 10
in the form 1 : n
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 4, to give:
1 : 2.5
We divide both
numbers in the ratio by
the first number
To make comparisons,we can write ratiosin the form 1 : n.
eg: Write the ratio 3 : 21
in the form 1 : n
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 3, to give:
1 : 7
We divide both
numbers in the ratio by
the first number
To make comparisons,we can write ratiosin the form 1 : n.
eg: Write the ratio 8 : 34
in the form 1 : n
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 8, to give:
1 : 4.25
We divide both
numbers in the ratio by
the first number
To make comparisons,we can also write ratios
in the form n : 1.
eg: Write the ratio 4 : 10
in the form n : 1
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 10, to give:
0.4 : 1
We divide both
numbers in the ratio by the second
number
To make comparisons,we can also write ratios
in the form n : 1.
eg: Write the ratio 8 : 32
in the form n : 1
answer: Divide each number in the ratio by 32, to give:
0.25 : 1
We divide both
numbers in the ratio by the second
number
