Test Within the core of Mariahilferstrasse, Vienna’s largest shopping district, cars have been eliminated altogether.

The core zone is bookended by street sections that have been reduced from four lanes to two in order to accommodate wider sidewalks.

In keeping with the overall cleanliness of the street, waste bins are strategically located every few metres.

Textured walking networks for the visually impaired can be found throughout Vienna.

An abundance of benches and seating areas help make Mariahilferstrasse more of a meeting area and not just a place to shop.

There are plenty of places to park here… for bikes that is.

Thanks to the city’s extensive public transit system which continues to grow, it’s no longer necessary to own a car.
