1. What is a verb tense? The time the action takes place.

What is a verb tense?

We use present tense to talk about things that always or never happen or habits.

1. Usually, I go to school at 7:00 am.

2. I never eat in the cafeteria.

3. Lizards climb on the walls everyday.

4. She swims in the pool every morning.

For the He/She/It person, add an s at the end of the verb.

1. Present Tense

Present Tense Examples:

We use the past tense to talk about things that happened before now.

I watched television yesterday evening.

Add -ed at the end of a word to make in past tense.

talk+ed=talked

If the word already ends in e, just add the d.

change+d= changed

2. Past Tense

If the word ends in a consonant and y, change the y for an i and add ed.

study-y= stud+i+ ed= studied

If the word ends in a vowel and y, just add ed.

play+ed= played

Irregular verbs must be memorized, there is no rule for them.

The PRESENT PROGRESSIVE TENSE indicates continuing action, something going on now. This tense is formed with the helping "to be" verb, in the present tense, plus the present participle of the verb (with an -ing ending)

I am buying all my family's Christmas gifts early this year. She is skating in the park. They are running in the beach.

The FUTURE AND PAST PROGRESSIVE TENSE indicate actions that have been

happening or will be happening. My sister will be going to college next year Dad was working on his car last night. They were cooking pancakes this morning.
