El Sistema – What is it?
•A music education programme stressing social development through group playing .
• Developed in Venezuela, and under the continuing leadership of José Antonio Abreu since 1975.
• Offering every child in society, regardless of age, ability or advantage, the opportunity for social and musical development .
• Focused on regularly and immersively playing together from a very early age.
• An initiative that develops through local community music centres and the network that results from the centralised organisation of such centres.
