Monitoring of chemicals at the chosen factory - at Egervin Corporation

Description of the project 10 students interested in chemistry took part in the programme. They

exchanged information with the students of the partner schools using e-mail. The language of the project was English.

Since the spring of 1999 the students visited the chosen industrial firm several times. They got information about the history, the business strategy and the role of the firm in the region. The students learnt about the process of the production and the different chemicals used concentrating on environment protection.

Several tests were performed in the lessons based on the chemicals and technology seen at the firm.

Several thousands of tourists visit the town The main sights: the

medieval fortress, the Basilica, the Liceum, the baroque Dobó Square, the Minaret, the orthodox church.

Eger is the educational and cultural centre of Heves County.

The town is famous for its health springs.

Famous wines are produced from the grapes grown on the hills around Eger.

The biggest wine producing firm in Eger is Egervin Corporation. The students visited and studied this

firm.

Different chemicals found in wine are tested in the laboratory of Egervin.

Szilágyi Gimnázium prepares the students to be able to follow their studies at colleges and universities

and to take part in study-competitions successfully.

The students performed one of the measuring tests they had seen in the lab of the firm.

During the process of wine production sulphur can get into the wine. The very importance of the

measuring-test is to determine this sulphur-content.
