Discussion Points

Birth Year Initiatives

Birth Year Initiatives • Why are the changes being made?- Current landscape is inconsistent when it comes to player development- US Soccer aims to develop players with more individual skills, intelligence and confidence

• How/Who does it affect at MFJ?- Teams with split birth years- Coaching staff assignments - All MFJ Family

• Who is required to follow the initiatives?- All of US Soccer membership is required by August 2017- Michigan will adopt initiatives in August 2016

Birth Year Registration

• Why is birth year registration going into effect- Having players train and play according to their age and development level supports objectives

of Small Sided Standards.

• Can my son/daughter play up?- Yes, but this will be a decision in which is made by Boys/Girls DOC, TD, ED

• Is my son/daughter still going to be able to play with his/her classmates?- Depends on variety of factors, majorly how the club is making teams- Playing on a team with friends cannot always be a reality, same as having friends in different

classes at school- We at MFJ want to strive for the best possible placements and environments for all players

• Breaking up of existing teams?- US Soccer recognizes these changes can impact teams- Both Small Sided Standards and Birth Year Registration support the individual player
