Unit 1 – Improving Productivity

Dylan Wakelam

Instructions ~ 100 words per box

1.1Why did you use a computer? What other systems / resources could you have used?

There are a lot of ways to present information about the school, I could have done it on word document or by putting it on a white board, another way I could have presented this is to give everyone leaflets about the school instead of doing it on PowerPoint.I could have used paper display but the disadvantage is it might have ripped easy,Leaflets is a good idea but it will cost a lot of money.

1.2What skills did you need to learn in order to use PowerPoint?

To use PowerPoint you need to have good I.C.T skills and good time management, and you need to be creative. Good ict skills includes knowing how to custom animation and knowing how to paste a video or picture on the powerpoint, also you could be creative by changing the fonts and background colours.

I also needed organisational skills, these are important so I can find my work easily without opening the wrong ones. This is done by creating a good folder structure and naming my files appropriately.

1.2What resources did you need to make the presentation successful?

To make the presentation successful you need to add videos in it, this is so people can watch what the school is actually like and see it. Also you need to use sounds so it engages people in the PowerPoint also I used animation so it looks good, this also gets people engaged. Also I used the internet to get pictures that relate to the PowerPoint and get information about the school. I used the internet to gain research about the school subjects and school trips what are available.

1.4What factors might have affected how well you completed the presentation? (e.g. time / attendance / knowledge of software)

One of the ways my presentation might have been affected is my distractions, such as talking to others around me, or walking around the class. Another way my work might have been affected is not enough time, this is because I had to rush the last bit of it so I might of forgot to put something in or spelt something wrong. Also having time off school could effect my presentation because this means I had less time than others and could have done a lot more in the time I had off. I also could have attended catch up sessions for extra time to work on my work. I also only knew basic features on PowerPoint and had to learn advanced features at the same time I was working on my presentation so this slowed me down because I had to do two things at once.

1.6Why did you use PowerPoint to make your presentation? What other software was available? Why did you choose not to use them?

Because it is easy to use and good to use, also I used this because most computers now have this available so more people can view it at home.

I chose to use PowerPoint because most modern computers have this software already installed on the computer, I also used PowerPoint because it is easy to use and fast to work. Also I used PowerPoint because you can send it to other people so they can view it when they want and view it at home. I could have used prezie which is an online software with you would have to pay for, also if I chose to use this I would have had to learn it all from scratch where as I already knew how to use PowerPoint. Also I could have used another software called matchware which I also would have had to pay for and learn how to use it.

2.2Which tools within PowerPoint made it appropriate for your presentation?

The tools on PowerPoint I used was:1.Insert tool to put a video, sound, images and text-to get the audience involved 2.Animation tool-to add animation to add effect3.Slide master-so an image appears on every page4.Formatting tools-text to make words stand out5. Transition tool to get audience involved 6. Format tool to make things stand out and look professional.

1.7Were there any legal constraints or local constraints that changed the way you created your presentation? (e.g. copyright, file sizes, AUP)

CANT TAKE OTHER PEOPLES: WORDS VIDEOS PICTURES

I didn't use copyright because I stated where I got them from

When I put pictures or videos on my presentation I had to state where I got them from so I wasn’t using copyright, I also had to state where I got information from.Copy right is a law and I did not break this law because I did not take other peoples words or pictures because I stated where I got them from.

Whilst I was creating my presentation I did not break the school I.T rules in regards to email and computer use because I read the AUP. I also had to make sure my video was a suitable size to upload my work to the exam board

2.4What improvements do you think you could do to your presentation?

To improve my work I could add more pictures to get the audience involved more and maybe another video. Also I could have put more information in the presentation to inform the audience a little bit more. I also could have told the audience more about each subject so they know all about the subjects, I also could have reduced the amount of slides so the audience didn’t get bored through the presentation. Also more videos would be good so they know what the school looks like more.

3.2What improvements do you think you could have done to improve your work rate?(keyboard shortcuts, file names & locations, backups, work after school, templates, planning)

To make my work rate faster I could have learnt advanced i.c.t shortcuts, I also could have learnt how to type faster because I can only type slow and that reduces my amount of work in a lesson. I also could have came to catch up sessions after school to get more hours on my work but I didn’t know about them. I could have looked at previous templates to work from. Also if I planned it better I could have worked faster because I could have copied straight off my planning. Also a few times I went on it some work was not there because I had forgot to save it so I had to repeat the work I had already completed.
