FIRST CIRCULAR
27th|30th August 2019, Wageningen -The Netherlands
Wageningen University & Research is delighted to invite you to join us at the fourth
edition of the Wageningen Soil Conference. As in previous editions, the aim is to
discuss the importance of soils. In the 2019 edition, the focus will be on
“Understanding soil functions: from ped to planet”. To do this we will adopt a new
style of conference, with traditional conference talks in the mornings, followed by a
range of scientific and interactive topic workshops in the afternoons.
THEMES OF THE DAY
Day 1 - Soil functions for society (land management and
policy applications)
Day 2 - Innovative methods for measuring soil functions
(lab, field or sensor technology)
Day 3 - Modelling & mapping of soil functions across
scales (temporal, spatial and social)
Day 4 - Synergies and trade-offs between soil functions (primary productivity; biodiversity; nutrient cycling; water resources; carbon and climate regulation)

CALL FOR MASTERCLASSES
27th|30th August 2019, Wageningen -The Netherlands
Wageningen University & Research is delighted to invite you to join us at the fourth edition of
the Wageningen Soil Conference. In the 2019 edition, we aim to offer a range of scientific and
interactive masterclasses in the afternoons. We hereby invite you to submit a proposal for such
a masterclass.
What we offer:
Facilities: (class)rooms, pc facilities, laboratory facilities, field sites
3-hour timeslots on Tue 27, Wed 28 and Thu 29 August afternoon (13:30
– 16:30)
What we need to know from you:
Please fill out the info template including:
Title and short (max 100 words) description of your masterclass
Maximum number of participants that you can host
Material that you need for the workshop
Submit the template by 10 December 2018 to jantiene.baartman@wur.nl
MASTERCLASSES – The idea:
Examples:
o Hands-on tutorial of a soil
model
o Laboratory training
o Field demonstration
o Topical discussions
Masterclasses are an excellent way to show
and share your research, expertise and new
tools or methods in an interactive way or
to discuss emerging topics and promising
research agendas. Note that they should
not be regular (one-way) lectures.
