WHAT DO YOU THINK TYPOGRAPHY IS?

Anyone have an idea?

WHAT IS TYPOGRAPHY?Typography is the art and technique of arranging letters

to make written language readable and appealing

when displayed. It involves selecting typefaces, letter

-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space within letters pair

s (

kerning[). In

modern times, typography has been put in film, television, and

online broadcasts to add emotion to communication

.

Typography is the work of:typesetters,

compositors, typographers, graphic designers, art directors,

manga artists, comic book artists, graffiti artists,

clerical workers, and everyone else who arranges graphics for a

product. Until the

Digital Age, typography was a specialized occupation .

WHAT IS CALLIGRAPHY?

Raise your hand if you

have a hypothesis.

CALLIGRAPHY IS….A visual art related to writing. It is the design of

lettering with a broad tip instrument, dip pen, or

brush , among other writing instruments. A contemparary

calligraphic practice can be defined as, "

the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, and s

killful

manner”.

Modern calligraphy ranges from functional inscriptions and designs to

fine-art pieces where the letters may or may not be legible (what does

that mean?). Classical calligraphy differs from :typography

and non-classical hand-lettering, though a calligrapher

may practice both.

Calligraphy continues to flourish in the forms of :

wedding and event invitations, font design and

typography, original hand-lettered logo design,

religious art, announcements,

graphic design and commissioned calligraphic art,

cut stone

inscriptions, and memorial

documents. It is also used for

props and moving images for film and television,

testimonials, birth and death certificates, maps,

and other written works.

in Advertising and

how the words that

are relatable to the

being used to form

the shape of the

of lettering.

Decide which type of lettering project you want to

do based on your ability, preference and personality.

Always begin in pencil. Why? Sketch out your

name, initials or whatever style you choose. Always

outline in black marker to get a clean edge prior to

coloring.

Once you have completed all drawing and

details… begin adding color. Marker is best for this

project.
