Two Reviews Best TV Theme IdeasThe ideas that didn't make the cut

Overview

The complete list of best TV Theme songs that we came up with before narrowing the list down to our top 10.

The published version is available here:

Dallas

A classic tv show with a classic theme tune to boot.

Due South

Distinctive vocals and simply a great song that fits with the show..

Fraggle Rock

We could dance all day to the Fraggle Rock theme tune, it’s a nostalgic favourite.

Quantum Leap

This electro pop theme tune is iconic of the 80's and early 90's as well as Sci Fi at the time, the build up of serious undertones leads to a whimsical finish typical of the show itself.

Juliet Bravo

Nothing says 80’s UK cop show like Juliet Bravo, it may be nostalgia or could just be the catchy intro but we absolutely love this tune.

The OC

A fitting song, it seems this was one of those that was made for a teen drama show - particularly as it references the setting!

Twin Peaks

On first listen this Twin Peaks theme tune is soothing and tranquil, yet as the show develops it has an almost sinister, foreboding feel.

Baywatch

Maybe its the mix of sunny beaches or beautiful people in bikini’s but the song fits so well and you can’t help but sing along when you hear it.

Firefly

A classic western theme tune for a show about cowboys in space. If there was a sci-fi intro list it would certainly be near the top, but misses out on the overall TV theme tune list.

The A Team

Overplayed but brilliant nonetheless! This tune never fails to evoke memories of the tv show and can be used in any situation where a vehicle goes into a garage.

True Blood

Slips into the deep, dark vibe of the show really well and stands on its own as being a really great song.

The Sopranos

One of the most symbolic intros to a show, the driving home montage sums up American life and the juxtaposition of this song fits perfectly reminding us of changing times in America.

Malcolm in the Middle

A popsy classic from They Might Be Giants is used for this comedy set around the home of a real American family. While it’s a good song it doesn’t fit too well with the show itself.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Will Smith deserves credit for rapping the intro to this 90’s hit, it certainly is a catchy tune to sing along to as well as giving us the backstory to boot.

Game of Thrones

An epic theme which is fitting for this fantasy drama. The opening title sequence covers each land in Westeros and the mood of the theme cleverly changes for each one.

Knight Rider

Another 80’s electro theme tune, this time Knight Rider, unfortunately not all 80’s theme tunes could make the list - maybe in our top ten 80’s theme tunes list!

The LIttlest Hobo

If we’re honest we probably looked forward to hearing the theme tune at the start and end of every episode of “The Littlest Hobo” more than watching the stay German Shepard’s roaming adventures each week.

Thundercats

“Thunder, Thunder, Thunder Thunder Cats…Ho!“ maybe it’s nostalgia and reminiscing about singing along but this is a classic theme tune which is why it made the list.

The Royle Family

The is a great Oasis song, and for fans of the show never fails to conjure up images of the Royle’s watching the box.

Freaks and Geeks

For a show set in the 80's there was only one ever song to sum up Lindsay Weir's teenage rebellion and that's Bad Reputation by Joan Jett.

Sons of Anarchy

Instantly recognisable this acoustic theme tune set the show up nicely, however peaks a little too early.

The Wire

The Wire's theme tune is catchy and tuneful and the lyrics can easily relate to the drug use in the show or the drug culture, which makes it work on a number of levels.

The Big Bang Theory

A good choice of song and a good intro that fits well, sadly too many recent repeats means this pop classic fades into the background rather than standing out as a favourite.

Saved by the Bell

Late 80’s early 90’s kids TV theme tune staple, Saved by the Bell is a classic to a generation.
