#TwitterFunctionalityBasically, Twitter is a micro-blogging and instant messaging tool for a brand or company.

Anyone can literally Tweet about anything all day long, so long as the message is within the 140 character or less.

This mass-communication tool can be used to leverage a brand’s business message to the world. Some businesses are even dedicating staff to manage their Twitter accounts.

#OptimisingTwitterTwitter Bio: Write a short description about you, what you do and your blog link.

Twitter Username: It should be search engine optimized. It should be realated to your blog, your brand or at least, your name.

Follow other members in your niche, including your competitors.Have relevant, quality conversations with others.– A perfect way to catch the interest of your followers. Just make tweeting

conversation which others too can see. – This will increase your influence in others and will publicize your name

vs.

#TweepsLingo# The symbol is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. Was created organically by Twitter users. – E.g.: #FF; which stands for "Follow Friday“ whereTwitter users often suggest who

others should follow on Fridays by tweeting with the hashtag #FF

@ The sign is used to call out usernames in Tweets. When a username is preceded by the @ sign, it becomes a link to a Twitter profile.

E.g.: Hello @natjioe!

• d is also called a DM; these messages are private between only the sender and recipient.

E.g.: d natjioe yadda yaddi yadda.

• RT means ReTweet, which is the act of forwarding another user's Tweet to all of your followers.

Automatic ReTweet without editing – Click:ReTweet with editing – Place RT at the front of your message.

#SyncingAllTogetherThe reason I love twitter:

(twitter status update) + (#in) = Linkedin status update

(twitter status update) + (#fb) = Facebook status update

#HowToIncreaseYourTwitterInfluenceBe Interesting: Gain new followers by adding value to their Twitter experience.– Try to follow the 9/1 rule of thumb – for every ten tweets, try to make nine of them

Interesting, Informative or Interactive and one personal. This means you will avoid flooding your followers with spam, and demonstrate you’re providing valuable content.

Be Informative: Tweet something you find worth reading, this is more likely to be great Twitter material. Include a link and give a short summary of what your followers will see if the click on the link – the headline will usually suffice.

Be Interactive: Share something by retweeting a link you have a read/look/watch. The benefit of this is that you can see what your followers are interested in and their followers will see your name and possibly start following you!

Location, Location, Location From Foursquare to Gowalla – it’s all the range: sharing where you are , where you’re going, where you’ve been.

Mobile AdsPerfect for POS (point-of-sale), mobile ads can reach a potential buyer at just the right moment of impulse.

Social Media PolicyIf you don’t have a corporate social media policy, establish one. Get it codified, ratified and widely disseminated. In the words of Seth Godin: “Conversations among the members of your marketplace happen whether you like it or not. Good marketing encourages the right sort of conversations.”

There are a lot of theory about this, but for me there are 4 big groups of twitter users:

1. The Conversationalist

2. The Thought Leader

3. The Celebrity

4. The Parody

#AppsAndBeyondVenrock’s David Pakman asked the question on everyone’s mind at the time: “Where are there currently opportunities that won’t risk overlapping with Twitter’s current or upcoming features?”I see possibilities.

Best Buy encouraged hundreds of employees to handle online customer service and company promotions via Twitter.

Quoted from their PR statement:

Paul Smith is a Brit gentleman who has traveled around the world almost totally free using only Twitter to get journeys from fellow users. This is how he did it:– One-way flight from Frankfurt to New York (tweeter called Owen, using Air

Miles).– Spare bed in hotel room (tweeter from Yorkshire called Mark).– Then travel to and stays in Washington DC, Chicago and San Francisco by

plane, train and car (US tweeters).– And so on and so forth.

He didn’t finish his journey but here’s what he said:– “I had achieved more than he could have hoped for - and proven how kind and

spontaneous people could be to total strangers. I was almost there, but not quite. But my main aim was to get as far around the world as I could in 30 days. When I gazed across the sea towards Campbell Island I didn’t feel like a beaten man. People were bending over backwards to help me and the trip proved to me there is a lot of good in the world."
