‘Twas brillig …

Interpreting poetry through film and drama

Lesson 1 objective: To decode unfamiliar words, using

contextual, morphological and grammatical clues

(In other words: What is this poem about? What do these words mean?)

Lesson 2 objective:To understand that a poem can be

interpreted in different ways

(What do I think it means? What do the film-makers think it means:in the first verse? in the last verse?)

Ref: Jabberwocky: http://vimeo.com/13641637

Lesson 3 objective:Express our interpretation through

role play

(Act out what we think it means.Understand what the others think it means.)

Lesson 4 objective:To write a story inspired by

Jabberwocky with the help of writing frames

(Plan the setting, characters, problem and resolution.Use our own poetic ideas.)

Lesson 5 objective:To second-draft a story for younger

reading partners

(Read and edit each other’s drafts.Write it in best so someone else can read it.)

Lesson 6 objective:To provide an audience

for our writing

(Read the new story to other people.Get them to interpret it!)

Outgrake!
