Bachchan, Kangana win big at Bollywood heavy National Awards

NEW DELHI, Mar 28:

Megastar Amitabh Bachchanwon his fourth National awardfor “Piku”, while it was a secondconsecutive best actress win forKangana Ranaut at the NationalFilm Awards announced heretoday, which saw Bollywood’sdominance in major categories,barring the top prize that went tomultilingual “Baahubali”.

73-year-old Bachchan wonthe best actor honour for his turnas a hypochondriac father in theroad-trip family drama. He pre-viously won the honour for“Agneepath”, “Black” and“Paa”.

Ranaut, who turned 29 lastweek, was declared the winnerfor her endearing dual turn as

Tanu, a troublesome wife andHaryanvi sportsperson Datto inromantic comedy “Tanu WedsManu Returns”.

The actress called it the “bestbirthday gift” especially since shegets to honour with Bachchan.

“It is the best birthday gift Icould have got. I am thrilled andfeel blessed especially since MrBachchan is the best actor withme,” Ranaut said in a statement.

This is the third trophy forRanaut at the National Awards,having won best actress for“Queen” last year and earlier forbest supporting actress for 2008film “Fashion”.

SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus“Baahubali” was announced thebest feature film winner by film-maker Ramesh Sippy, who headed

a 11-member jury, even as lastyear’s much appreciated“Masaan” had to contend itselfwith just a best debut directoraward for Neeraj Ghaywan.

“Baahubali” star RanaDaggubati said, “I am thrilled.We took a risk and attemptedsomething different with it. Nowwith this award we feel hon-oured.”(PTI)
