A Message from Pastor Zieske —
Dear Trinity Members and Friends,
Peaceful greetings.
As a congregation we have, in recent days, cleared
two tall hurdles. 1) The Mission Site Profile (MSP) has
been completed and sent in to the Oregon Synod. We
are now awaiting the names of possible candidates to be
considered for the interview process. In preparation for
that, your Transition Team will be preparing them-
selves by determining questions to be asked and practic-
ing the interview process itself. As always, your Transi-
tion Team will keep the congregation informed as to our
progress in this next step. Weekly verbal announce-
ments at worship, written notes in the weekly an-
nouncements and Ministries newsletter will keep every-
one informed.
And 2) We have had our initial congregational con-
versation regarding the hungry and homeless that we
often find on our parking lot, sidewalk and grounds.
This initial conversation has helped your Positive Ac-
tion Team (PAT) identify the concerns of the congrega-
tion for the purpose of creating a written policy state-
ment to clarify our common understanding of the scope
of our mission and purpose regarding the hungry and
homeless. This is necessary because Trinity alone will
not be able to address the larger question of the root
causes that bring about these needs. But we do have a
mission and purpose in our relationship to and with the
hungry and homeless and we need to speak with one
voice in the matter. Your Positive Action Team is
working on a “This Is Sacred Ground” statement that
has the intended purpose of stating positively, clearly
and concisely what our mutual expectations are regard-
ing the use of our property. More information about
this will be forthcoming.
Now, a personal note: I was approaching the open
conversation time on Sunday, June 26th, regarding the
hungry and homeless with a worried heart. We, obvi-
ously, have a wide range of thoughts and feelings re-
garding the folks on our doorstep and parking lot. But I
was wonderfully heartened by the spirit of kindness and
compassion evidenced in our calm and rationale conver-
sation together. Through our conversation and written
notes, I do believe we have given everyone an oppor-
tunity to speak and be heard. There is a good spirit that
prevails throughout the good folks of Trinity Lutheran
Church. We will address this matter and we will be of
one mind, one spirit and one heart. Thank you for your
loving concern.
Joy and Peace,
Pr. Curtis Zieske

Summer Fun Days!!! July 17 & August 21
Special activities have been planned over the summer for kids
of all ages. Come downstairs during worship on these special
days for fun and excitement!
7 Tips for a Healthy Fourth of July
By STEPHANIE CASTILLO, Prevention.com
Sunshine! Barbecues! Fireworks! Who doesn't
love a good July 4th celebration? Well, your hear-
ing for one, and your stomach after your third
helping of BBQ, and your skin if you leave off the
SPF...See what we're getting at?
The fun times of the 4th can be fraught with
peril if you're not careful. But not to worry; we've
got the best tips to make sure this is your best—
safest!—Independence Day ever.
Bring Some Earplugs
A new report from Loyola University Health
System finds that the sounds of summer—such as
fireworks and marching bands—can actually dam-
age your hearing.
In fact, fireworks have a sound decibel of 150,
and ear protection is recommended for decibels
above 85. When noise is too loud, it begins to kill
the hair cells and nerve endings in the inner ear; so
the longer (and closer) you're exposed to loud noise,
the more likely you are to permanently damage
your hearing.
Toss some plugs in your bag or use your hands
to cover your ears in a pinch.
Swim in Clear Water
Whether you're planning on making a splash at
the beach, pool, or even lake, a good rule of thumb
is to only dip into clear, good-smelling water.
For lake goers, make sure there isn't any blue-
green algae, or slimy, smelly green film floating on
the lake's surface. Some forms of this can produce a
toxic bacteria (called cyanobacteria) that's bad
news for your health.
Practice Safe Eating
If you're manning the grill, designate different
plates for raw and cooked meat, and don't leave
food out in the sun for more than two hours (one
hour if the temps are high).
SPF in Advance
Applying your sunscreen a few days in ad-
vance—a couple times a day—means you can sig-
nificantly improve your skin's protection from
harmful rays.
Follow the Heat and Humidity Rule
To keep from dehydrating, implement the 70/70
rule: When the temperature and humidity are both
above 70, you enter the dehydration danger zone.
Stay safe by sipping frequently from a water
bottle, and drinking plenty of water before, during,
and after activity.
Alternate Your Alcohol
You'll probably have a cocktail or two, and the
safest way to consume them is to: (a) make sure
you have plenty of food in your stomach, and (b)
alternate each cocktail with a non-acoholic bever-
age, like water or decaf soda to help stave off alco-
hol-induced dehydration.
Protect Your Pet
If you're bringing Fido along, remember to ap-
ply pet sunblock every 3 to 4 hours to their least
hair-covered spots, and use pet-friendly insect re-
pellants.
