INVITATION
TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION4
THE BUYER Estimated PriceEstimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance).
Reserve PriceThe reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot not be sold.
Buyer’s PremiumBuyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.
BEFORE THE AUCTIONViewing Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to the sale.
Condition ReportsCondition reports are available upon request. They are statements of opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact. Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description. Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity, genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot.
RegistrationIf you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes prior to the sell.
THE AUCTIONBiddingAll artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen.
Bidding IncrementsBidding generally opens below the low estimate and advances in the following increments:
Rp. 1.000.000 - Rp. 10.000.000 by Rp. 500.000Rp. 10.000.000 - Rp. 20.000.000 by Rp. 1.000.000Rp. 20.000.000 - Rp. 50.000.000 by Rp. 2.000.000Rp. 50.000.000 - Rp. 100.000.000 by Rp. 5.000.000Rp. 100.000.000 - Rp. 200.000.000 by Rp. 10.000.000Rp. 200.000.000 - Rp. 500.000.000 by Rp. 20.000.000Rp. 500.000.000 - Rp. 1.000.000.000 by Rp. 50.000.000Rp. 1.000.000.000 - above by the auctioneer’s direction.

Written bids are written instruction given to TREASURES to bid for you on one or more lots up to a maximum amount you specify for each lot. There is no charge for this service. If two or more parties leave identical bids, the first bid received by TREASURES will take preference. Written bid forms are available 7 days before the sale and returned to TREASURES within 24 hours before the sale or by fax to (021) 351 0707.
Telephone BidsIf you cannot attend the auction, TREASURES will execute on behalf of your bid by telephone. Please make arrangements for this service at least 1 (one) day before the sale. It is advisable for you to leave your maximum bid, in case you are unable to reach us by phone.
Successful BidsSuccessful bidder will be indicated by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer after reaching or exceeding the reserve price. TREASURES will record the bidder number of the buyer. Under the auctioneer’s discretion bidding may be reopened.
Unsold lotsWhen a lot fails to sell, the auctioneer will not announce a bidder’s number. Lots unsold will be returned to the consignor usually after a week in case there are any post sale offers.

This lot is accompanied with certificate of authenticity from the artist RP 150.000.000 - 200.000.000
Being fascinated by photographic realism, Dede Eri Supria has developed his paintings through collection of photo-graphs. He found his idioms through observing photos. However he never copies the photographs either. His paintings show that he tends to go beyond photography, in the sense that the sceneries he creates in his canvases are impossible for photography to emulate. In playing with this imagination of the unreal-reality or engineered visual reality, he employs painstakingly realistic technique in the details of his works. His style and theme becomes a pioneer of Gera-kan Seni Rupa Indonesia in the late 70’s. He had received several awards, such as: General Award for The Arts from The Society for American Indonesia Friendship Inc. (1978), The International Visitor’s Program from USIS, USA (1981), Anugerah Adam Malik (1986), and Affandi Award (1993).

M. Irfan M. Irfan was born in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra 1972. M. Irfan is included in 51 members of the young artists from West Sumatra that recently held a group exhibition under the theme of Panorama. Irfan’s paintings of train series have captivated the people’s interest. He mostly painted in huge size. They portray trains, railways, and fumes which give a sense of darkness. His “trains” series was quite a leap in Irfan’s painting career. They contained Irfan’s dreams, hopes and ideas.
ARS Longa is the Latin quote, often rendered in English as Art is long, life is short. It can be interpreted as “art lasts forever, but artists die and are forgotten” (in this use sometimes ren-dered in the Greek order as “Life is short, Art eternal”). This come to Irfan’s idea to describing how human life span limits all that might be accomplished.

Oil on canvas: 86 x 58 cmSigned and dated, upper right: Abdul Aziz, Bali.1975
Provenance:Private collection, Jakarta
RP 90.000.000 - 120.000.000
Abdul Aziz was born in Purwokerto, Central Java, and showed precocious artistic talent from childhood. His first Diploma was in Social Sciences from Gajah Mada University, after which he studied Art at the Indonesian Fine Arts Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta. Due to his exceptional talent he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Academia di Belle Arti in Rome in 1958, where he was awarded two Diplomas, in Painting and in Decoration. On his return to Indonesia in 1965 he lectured in Fine Art at Udayana University and established his studio in Ubud Bali.
Abdul Aziz is now regarded as one of Indonesia’s greatest artists of the 20th Century. Originally from Central Java but a resident of Bali for the last part of his life, Aziz was widely known and highly sought after for his realistic paintings of village scenes. Aziz’s paintings include beautiful women, depicted singly or in groups, and portraits both painted and sculpted. Yet his oeuvre stands out as more of an individual contribution to Indonesian art history than most, belonging in a class with artists who are continuously referred to as the ‘greats’: those individual artists that Western-trained or influenced art writers found to be the most original and innovative of their time.
Aziz came to learn nude painting during his study in in Italy, where he took the life-drawing classes in the Euro-American sense. As an art student in Rome he was faced with one naked model after the other, most of them women. In Aziz nude paintings, there is nothing particularly sensual about the image. The painting looks like a study of naked human being, who happens to be female, by an artist who is exploring unusual angles and surface-toners rather than painting something which excites his subliminal or conscious desires. He presented the woman as a human being of the female species who has a lovely, beauty, natural thing of the human body.

Born in Amsterdam, 1895. He studied art at the Hendrick de Keijser-school, the Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. He visited Indonesia in 1936 and stayed in Bali from 1931 – 1941. He helped establish the Museum Puri Lukisan and together with Walter Spies founded the Pita Maha Artist’s Association (1936). His works are amongst the collections of former President Soekarno, the Neka Museum, the Agung Rai Fine Art Gallery, the Rijksmuseum Kroller Muller Otterlo and the Sinerg Museum in Laren. During his existence in “Pita Maha” (the creative center for the modernization of Balinese art before the War), a painter society of young Balinese artists, he had successfully maintained a high artistic level of its member producing work of high quality.
Bonnet’s figures are always unique and captivating. He has an extraordinary ability to portray impressive faces in a conventional way. Since the beginning of his career, he had deep interest in describing the farmers in their rural surrounding. His subjects are portrayed in an impressive way and full of compassion. He preferred to present his portraiture as a unit, as a single portrayal of a race. The present lot is many of Bonnet’s works that interpret the farmer theme. The figure revealed the story of a peasant in classical state. Here, Bonnet distinctly portrayed the figure with an impressive anatomy of the muscular male body that represents an element of grace and energy.v
