- 1. Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business
purposes. Temporary, short-term movement of people to destination
outside their resident places.
- 2. Tourism industry can be mainly classified into three forms,
namely, DOMESTIC TOURISM INBOUND TOURISM OUTBOUND TOURISM
- 3. Wealthy people have always travelled to different parts of
the world. Leisure travel was associated with the Industrial
Revolution in the United Kingdom. Cox & Kings was the first
official travel company to be formed in 1758.
- 4. India as a tourism destination is the toast of the world at
the moment. Conde Nast ranked India amongst the top 10 tourist
destinations. Travel and tourism industry is the second highest
foreign exchange earner for India.

- 8. Tourism industry has contributed enormously in the
flourishing graph of Indias economy Indian tourism industry
contributes to around 5.9% of the countrys GDP. The booming success
of Indian tourism industry has led to a drastic change in the
hospitality department as well. It provides employment to around
41.8 million of inhabitants. The online tourism industry has
accounted for a turn over of USD 800 million.

- 13. Travel & tourism industry's impact on other sectors is
very immense. Sectors like horticulture, agriculture, poultry,
handicrafts and construction have benefitted immensely from the
travel and tourism industry. Tourism industry also provides
indirect employment to millions of people in India through its
linkage with other sectors of the economy.
- 14. More disposable income in the hands of middle class. India

- 15. The demand for travel and tourism in India is expected to
grow by 8.2% between 2010 and 2019. Expected to be the second
largest employer in the world. Projected to become the fifth
fastest growing business travel destination from 2010-2019.

places. Economical exploitation of tourists. Pollution
problem.
