FLATWORMS

A beautifully coloured flatworm (Pseudoceros sp.) at Papua New Guinea

The flatworm in this picture, Pseudoceros ferrugineus, was photographed in the oceans off the coast of the Philippines. Most flatworms are free-living like this one, but there are also many parasitic flatworms that live for at least part of their lives inside a host.

ROUNDWORMS

Pinworms are common human intestinal parasites, especially in children.

Ascaris lumbricoides is an intestinal roundworm of huamns and is estimated to infect ~1/4 of the worlds population. Females can produce upto 2,000,000 eggs per day which are passed into the host's faeces.
