Toni Symiah (2012 - Present) In-House DesignUpon leaving my last full time employed position I decided that I should use the opportunity to become a freelance graphic designer. My first task was the name I wanted to use, and as many designers I decided to use my own. Because I design for businesses and individual I needed to have a clear distinction between the two and have materials I used that were relevant to each design service.

Acas (2006 – 2012) In-House Design (2009 – 2012)During my last full time employment, I was responsible for providing support for two in-house national training teams specialising in employment law. My main role was to plan and co-ordinate training events for the helpline advisors and conciliators, arranging travel and accommodation, liaising with delegates and suppliers and, managing two email help desks. The in-house design aspect required me to be responsible for the corporate rebranding of new and existing materials including event planning documents, visual aids, workbooks, statistics, digital media and, the design and production of a monthly and quarterly newsletter.

Andy Evans – Electrical Services (2013)Professional DesignI was approached by a colleague of mine whose husband is a self- employed electrician. At the time he was using pre-designed business cards which didn’t really set him apart from his competitors so it was the perfect opportunity to think about creating an individual brand for his services. The new brand would give Andy a more professional look, help to market his services whilst on the move and, help him become more productive so that he could spend more of his time on call-outs and with his customers.

&HR – HR Solutions (2013) Professional DesignA close friend of mine was in the process of starting a HR consultancy business and needed to have a brand and documents that she could use to market and operate her business in a professional manner. She already had the image of the brand in mind so we worked together to strategies on what project elements would benefit her in at the present time, and other elements she could use for the future when she was in the position to expand her services.

She was highly proficient in a number of packages and the improvement in the quality and impact of our training materials and our letters us to present a far more professional impression and a very positive presentational impact.

I would recommend Miyah to anyone who was looking for a similar impact.”

Rob Deeks, Acas Delivery Training Manager (December 2014)

City College BirminghamStudent Further Education, (2003 – 2006)

“During 2003 – 2006, Miyah was a student at City College Birmingham on the levels 2 and 3 in Multimedia Design.

While on the Course, she produced some excellent work and shows the potential multimedia designer. She is competent in using various industry standard design software to a high level to produce original creative designs.

During her time with us at City College, Miyah was punctual with an excellent attendance record and her enthusiasm for the subject is without fault or criticism. Her abilities to work, communicate and interact with her peers is excellent and have been demonstrated while working within her peer group. Miyah also showed confidence when addressing people on a professional level and exhibited good imagination and a determination to achieve her goals.

To conclude, Miyah has a very good relationship with staff and students while at the college and is an overall excellent student that is a pleasure to teach. I believe she will be a credit to any future employer or educational institution as she always strives to achieve the best in whatever she undertakes.”

Testimonials/Recommendations

Acas - Advisory, Conciliation & Arbitration Service Helpline & IDR Training Co-ordinatorIn-House Design, (2009 - 2012)

“Miyah handled a wide variety of creative, design-based and administrative tasks for Acas over a number of years, most recently in relation to supporting the on-going training programs of 150 advisers and the creation/maintenance of an internal intranet-based employment law knowledge-base. As the Helpline Knowledge Manager at the time, I can confidently say that Miyah performed her duties admirably. Some of her many achievements included:

• Creating and maintaining a distinctive and appealing house-style materials that remains in use today

• Developing , implementing and maintaining a staff intranet and knowledge base, quickly learning and taking advantage of the more sophisticated tools available at the time

• Designing and producing a monthly newsletter taking advantage of many features by Adobe ® software.

In addition, as Miyah’s line manager, I can also confirm that she was highly self-motivated, frequently took the initiative to make good recommendations and worked in a flexible manner that supported the needs of the organisation. I would recommend Miyah to anyone who was looking for similar results and support.”

John Palmer, Acas Helpline Knowledge Manager (March 2015)

Andy Evans - Electrical Installations Professional Design Professional Design, (2013)

“Miyah designed my brand logo - which I could not of been happier with. I discussed with Miyah what I wanted to achieve with the design and that I wanted the brand to represent and how important it was to make my name the primary focus. I felt confident in Miyah from our first discussion, she listened and understood what I wanted to achieve and she came up with some great ideas and designs. After further discussions Miyah designed the final brand logo which I was extremely happy with - it was exactly what I had in mind. She has a great eye for detail and produced some superb creative designs.

The design Miyah created for my company covers all the aspects we discussed and more importantly she created a design that suited my individual needs - she has produced a professional, quality image - one which I want my customers to relate to me - and I would highly recommend her”.

“Setting up a new business is daunting and there are lots of things to consider. Brand identity was key for me in a competitive market

Miyah listened to my needs and got to know me and my company by building a brand that suited my personality and the needs of my business.

Miyah helped me to understand how colour and font would play an important role in attracting the right audience . She was present throughout the process and, happily reworked and created new ideas.

Now I have a fantastic range of business stationery that sets my company apart from my competition and, the eye catching design has bought significant attraction to my business.”.

COLOUR PALETTE

The concept for the brand was to make Andy’s name the primary focus. He has been long established and he needed to have a brand that would serve for many more years to come. The colour scheme serves to represent the feeling of trust and importance which is needed in Andy’s trade, and the waves included on the business stationery are to represent the waves of electricity to add relevance to the electrical industry.

VARIATION OF PRIMARY LOGO DESIGN [ALTERNATIVE VARIATIONS INCLUDE MONOTONE (BLACK), MONOTONE (WHITE), GREY SCALE]

COLOUR PALETTE

The idea for the vision of the brand was to expand on the ‘&’ symbol which represents the flexible approach to the hr services that are available. The typeface was also important strategy as it is a combination of very bold and traditional adding a value of importance and professionalism.

PRIMARY LOGO DESIGN [ALTERNATIVE VARIATIONS INCLUDE MONOTONE (BLACK), MONOTONE (WHITE), GREY SCALE, STROKE]

COLOUR PALETTE

I thought that it was important that the concept for my brand, represented both of my design services and could also be fused together. The green is more prominent in my branding for my businesses as it can represent growth and my intention is help to promote growth for my business clients. The pink colour is primarily used in the branding for my personal design service as it envokes care and nurturing as I like to think that my clients have walked away feeling that I have helped them along their journey towards the big day.

PRIMARY CORPORATE LOGO, © Acas, Euston Tower, 286 Euston Road, London, NW1 3JJ

Acas is a public organisation specialising in employment law across the UK. The main corporate logo “uses overlapping to denote finding common ground” and is in line with their mission of using dispute resolution techniques to resolve employment law disputes before they escalate to tribunal stage. The training materials were created to aid the helpline advisors and conciliators within their role. The logos for both the Helpline Training Team and the IDR Training Team were in line with the organisation’s corporate design guidelines, so that they represented an extension of Acas’s internal services.
