Show Someone You Love Them: Listen
The Great Thanksgiving Listen is a national assignment to engage people of all ages in the act of listen-ing and to capture the voices and stories of thousands of Americans through one-on-one interviews throughout the Thanksgiving hol-iday period. In support of this effort by StoryCorps, the AML will host a workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m. and provide listening areas during the Great Thanksgiving Listen, Nov. 16 through 30.
To participate in the event, download the free StoryCorps app. The Nov. 10, workshop will be facili-tated by Theo Wismar, an Encinal High School student and current user of the app. The goal of this event is to get users comfortable using the app and ready to partici-pate in the Great Listen.
From Monday, Nov. 16, through Friday, Nov. 30, AML will make two
Listening Corners available for those wishing to conduct inter-views. Completed interviews can be immediately uploaded to StoryCorps and the Alameda Free Library Facebook account as well (instructions will be provided).
For more information call 747-7713 or write alamedafree@gmail.com.
Board Game Day at the Library
On Sunday, Nov. 22, AML will host a free board game program for International Games Day @ Your Library, a day that celebrates play-ing games with the local community. The program takes place 2 to 5 p.m.
International Games Day @ Your Library is an initiative created by the American Library Association and the Australian Library and Information Association. It was created to encourage communi-ties across the world to collabo-rate and play games together in the library. All seven continents, including Antarctica, participated in the game day last year.
The library will provide a selec-tion of board games and partici-pants may also bring their own games to play. Friendly competition is encouraged and all ages and skill levels of players are invited to participate.
For more information, call the AML reference desk at 747-7713.
The Alameda Main Library, loca-tion for all the events listed, is at 1550 Oak St. at the corner of Lincoln Avenue.
