Applications are invited from UAlberta instructors who seek innovative ways of creating exceptional learning experiences and environments

Terms of Reference

There are three types of TLEF awards:

1. TLEF Project Grants

2. TLEF Seed Grants

3. TLEF Professional Teaching Development Grants

Project Application Deadline:January 28, 2020

• Watch internal deadlines for signatures and ranking set by Department/ Faculty/ Research Facilitator

3. Be aware of the application deadlines

• Project plan

• Ethics [after funds have been awarded]

• Dissemination

• Annual progress reports [April 30]

• Final report within 3 months of completion

4. Be aware of the requirements for the project

1. Key Words

2. Abstract (up to 150 words)

3. Project descriptioninnovation, collaboration, evaluation, sustainability, impact on students, dissemination

4. Budget (+ justification)

5. Timelines

6. CV

7. Appraisal letter from Chair or Dean

8. Dean’s ranking

9. Review the “Request for New Application/Proposal/Project”

• Attach the TLEF project application form and

other supporting documents

Note, signatures from the Principal Investigator/applicant (PI),

Chair, Dean and RSO are now collected through online

approvals using the Researcher Home Page and the

collection of physical (ink) signatures is no longer required.

• Contact the Research Facilitator assigned to

your faculty if you require assistance.

10. Submit the “Request for New Application/Proposal/Project”

Submit the “Request for New

Application/ Proposal/Project” to

workflow

This will route the application

electronically to the Chair (departmentalized

faculties), Dean, and RSO for online

approval

11. Chair and/or Dean, RSO provide online approvals

The Chair (in departmentalized

faculties), and the Dean review the “Request”

and attachments, prepare (and attach) the

appraisal letter, and provide their electronic

approval(s)

Deans rank all applications based on alignment with

Faculty’s academic plan and submit rankings to TLEF

(tlef.ctl@ualberta.ca)

RSO reviews and approves the “Request for Application/

Proposal/Project”

• After the TLEF application has been reviewed and approved by RSO, email a copy of the complete application/proposal (final version) to TLEF at tlef.ctl@ualberta.ca by January 28, 2020

• Applications may be submitted by the Principal Applicant (PI) or by the Research Facilitator

• Also email a Microsoft Word version of the key words, abstract and project description

• TLEF Project results will be released in late March and posted on the TLEF website

Up to 4K over 2 years

To improve teaching skills, enhance understanding of teaching and learning processes, and create environments that enhance student learning.

Two approval periods have been established.

• For events from April 1 to August 31, 2020, applications will be accepted starting December 1, 2019. ($70,000)

• For events from September 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, applications will be accepted starting May 1, 2020. ($30,000)
