ThyssenKrupp Elevator manufactures four basic types of elevators:
OILDRAULIC, TRACTION, FREIGHT and our
MACHINE ROOM-LESS elevators.
The information in this Owners
Guide applies to all four types.

Following a few simple tips can help your
passengers enjoy a safe, trouble-free ride.
Enter and exit the elevator promptly. Do not
hold the doors open and carry on a conversation.
This will delay proper elevator service.
Watch your step when entering or exiting the
elevator. If uneven stops occur, call your
ThyssenKrupp Elevator TEAMServicespecialist.
Do not reach into the door opening to disrupt
the Microlight infrared beams. This device
is provided to reopen the doors if an
obstruction occurs.
Instruct tenants to promptly report any elevator
malfunctions to the building manager.
Children should never ride unattended. They
should not be allowed to play in an elevator.
S E C U R I T Y G U I D E L I N E S .
Full-time maintenance or security personnel
should be acquainted with the special features
of the elevator so that they can react properly in
any situation.
Keys to the elevator should only be used byauthorized personnel and kept in a secure central
location.
Lock the machine room door at all times. Only
authorized personnel should be allowed to enter,
and no materials may be stored there other than
those for elevator maintenance. Refer to Safety
Code for Elevators and Escalators ASME A17/B44,
Canadian Standards Association CSA/CAN-B44-
94 for details.

In order to save time and money, check the items
listed below before contacting ThyssenKrupp Elevator. This may
save you the cost of a service call and place the elevator back
in service quickly. Consult your local ThyssenKrupp Elevator
representative concerning what is and is not covered under the
maintenance agreement and to understand what maintenance
operations you should perform between service calls.
Make sure the Run/Stop switch in the car station is in
the normal Run position.
Check all key operated switches and make sure they are
in the normal operating position.
Be sure the hoistway door sill and cab door sill are free
of debris. Both sills should be cleaned regularly. Foreign
objects such as gum wrappers, paper clips and other trash
can collect in the sills preventing the doors from operating
properly and may shut down the elevator.
Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers in the
disconnect or meter room. Be sure your building has full
power from the power company.
For Oildraulic applications, if the elevator has been at rest
for an extended period of time, run the car up and down the
hoistway several minutes. This will heat the oil in the power
unit, ensuring optimum performance.

EVERY THYSSENKRUPP ELEVATOR PRODUCT IS EQUIPPED WITH A NUMBER
OF DEVICES FOR THE PROTECTION AND CONVENIENCE OF PASSENGERS.
To ensure safety, personnel should become familiar with the function of
the keyswitch and push-button operations on the elevators. ALL KEY
OPERATION SHOULD BE USED BY AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.
Consult your local ThyssenKrupp Elevator representative for state or
local codes that vary from the national code.
Not all the features listed below will be installed on your elevator.

Electronic door edges detect when the elevator doorways are
blocked, keeping them open until the blockage is removed. If a
beam is interrupted, the doors will not close or will automatically
reopen if already closing. This door protection system replaces the
safety edge and photo eye.

P O W E R F A I LU R E .
In the event of the loss of normal power, limited elevator
service is continued through an automatic transfer to our
Emergency Power operation. Then, when normal power is
restored, the elevators will automatically transfer back to
normal operation. If there is not a standby power supply, the
elevators will stop in progress and remain at rest until normal
power is restored.
EMERGENCY POWER OPERATION
An Emergency Power lowering system provides automatic or
manual return of an elevator to a predetermined landing during
a blackout or single-phase electrical condition. ThyssenKrupp
Elevator offers options for emergency power operation. If there
is a standby power supply, the elevators will automatically
return to the lowest landing and the doors will open, allowingthe passengers to exit. The doors will then close and the
elevator will shut down. The elevators will remain at that
landing until a car is manually selected.
Some applications allow the elevators to lower to a
pre-selected landing, cycle the doors, then shut down. If the
designated landing is above the elevator at the time normal
power is lost, the car will proceed to the next lowest landing,
cycle the doors and shut down. Personnel should be notified of
which landing the elevators will return to in the event of power
failure.
BATTERY LOWERING
As an option on our hydraulic elevators, we offer a Battery
Lowering Unit, which provides supplemental power for the
elevator when the building loses power. The unit returns the
elevator to the designated landing and opens the doors,
allowing passengers to exit safely.
PLEASE BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE EMERGENCY POWER
OPERATION OF YOUR BUILDINGS ELEVATORS.
S TA L L E D E L E VA T O R .
In the unlikely event that an elevator becomes stalled with
passengers aboard, do not attempt a rescue yourself.
While all ThyssenKrupp elevators have an emergency exit,
this exit should be locked at all times and used only during
an emergency by trained personnel. Please follow these
instructions carefully:
Establish and maintain communication with the
passengers inside the elevator by using the elevator's
telephone or intercom, or simply by calling through the
doors. Reassure the passengers that steps are being
taken to remove them from the elevator.
Find out if anyone is injured or ill. If so, arrange for
medical assistance.
Contact your local ThyssenKrupp Elevator office
and inform them of the situation.
Find out how many people are in the elevator.
Ask the passengers to stand clear of the doors.
Ask the passengers not to smoke.
Find out whether the regular elevator lighting or the
emergency light is operating. This will help determinethe degree of power failure.

YOU AND YOUR TENANTS IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.

In the event of a fire, never use the
elevators to evacuate the building; use the stairways
to get to a safe place. Under no circumstances should
anyone except trained firefighters be allowed to use
the elevators after a fire has been reported.
Fire Service is initiated automatically by the buildings
smoke detectors or by activating the Fire Service keyswitch
located in the hall.
When this service is initiated, all hall and car calls are
cancelled, the elevators return to a designated floor, the
doors open and remain open. Trained firefighters then
may activate the Fire Service keyswitch in the elevator
and gain control of the car.
To return to normal operation, return the elevator to the
assigned Fire Service floor, hold constant pressure on the
door open push-button and turn the Fire Service keyswitch
in the car station to the Off position. Next, place the hall
Fire Service keyswitch in the Bypass or Reset position.
Pause momentarily, then turn the keyswitch to the Off
position. Only authorized personnel should be permitted to
reset Fire Service, after being certain there is no fire in the
building, and the smoke/heat detectors have been reset.
