Sermon Notes—January 5, 2020
The Ultimate Makeover
Step One—Humility
Matthew 5:3
A. Humility is the foundation for building or rebuilding our lives.
B. Humility involves never insisting on our own way as we place others above ourselves. (Philippians 2:3-4)
C.S. Lewis wrote, “Jesus taking on human flesh is comparable for what it would be like for us to turn into a slug (slimy snail).
Humility follows the order of God, others, self!
C. Humility is the only way to be a true servant and to greatness in God’s kingdom. (Mark 10:42-45)
Jesus did not discourage His disciples from seeking greatness. He gave them the path to true greatness.
Each of us should desire to be great in God’s kingdom, but it is imperative we understand service is the way to greatness and there is no service without humility.
We are all slaves to either sin or to Christ. (Romans 6:16-18) What type of slavery will we choose for ourselves?
