Identity and Performance

• “...all human identities are by definition social identities. Identifying ourselves or others is a matter of meaning, and meaning always involves interaction: agreement and disagreement, convention and innovation, communication and negotiation.” Jenkins, 2004

• “…using the term ‘performance’ to refer to all the activity of an individual which occurs during a period …before a particular set of observers…” Goffman, 1959

Digital Identity

• We use the term "digital identity" (DI) to describe the persona an individual presents across all the digital spaces that he/she is represented in (performances in Digital Places)

• Reputation/Trust are other people’s interpretation of this DI.

Aims

• Enabling individuals to recognise the nature of their DI.

• Empowering them to increase their control of their DI

• Understanding the employer's perspective on DI.
