PRIME Minister Datuk Seri NajibAbdul Razak says that to spur thecountry’s growth, the government willimplement a win-win economic policymodel to benet all races.

He said the government under-stands that the Chinese don’t like thequota system and admitted the systemis not the right means for the economyto forge ahead, the Chinese press re-ported yesterday.

Najib was addressing a welcomedinner hosted by MCA and 15 ma-

jor Chinese guilds at the PutrajayaInternational Convention Centre onSaturday night in conjunction withhis appointment as the sixth primeminister.

“The government is aware that many people are ‘cheating’ the quotasystem. The Malays know about it, sodo the Chinese, because very oftenthey (the Malays and the Chinese)work together to ‘cheat’ the system.”

As such, he said, the government will implement a win-win policywhich benet the Malays and Chineseas well as other races in the country.

Noting that the Chinese commu-nity’s main concerns are education,economy, religion and crime, he saidif the government can tackle problemsin the four key areas, he is condent that the Chinese will continue to sup-port the Barisan Nasional.

At the function, he also announcedthat the government will create aspecial scholarship category under thePublic Services Department (JPA) next year which is 100% based on merit.

At the function, MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat urged thegovernment to allocate funds for Chi-nese primary schools every year.

Hua Zong (Federation of ChineseAssociations of Malaysia) president Tan Sri Lim Gait Tong hoped theprime minister will hold dialogueswith Chinese groups on Chineseeducational issues.

KELANAJaya MP Loh Gwo-Burne hasdenied talk that he will resign as theconstituency’s elected representative.

He told Nanyang Siang Pau on Sat-urday that the talk is totally baseless.

“The rumour has been going on for

He said as the rumour is rife, he hasgot many calls from friends, including

did hesitate when he rstlearnt that he was electedMP and realised he wouldhave to change his lifestyleto full the responsibilities

as the people’s representative, but itdid not take him long to decided thathe should take up the challenge and dohis best to serve the people.

He said that if he were to quit now,he would anger the public.

“I’m curious as to how the rumourstarted. But I want to tell all of you thatI have never thought about it (resigningas MP). On the other hand, I am try-ing hard to get resources (to help myconstituency).”

On talk that Gobind wants to quit,Loh said he didn’t believe it was true.
