THE FEEBLE-WORLD

11

Feeble with or without Darkness, or Flavor

massive, emerging TH activities∑

= 14 + 4 talks

Ongoing quest for BSM, here, in particular DM and the flavor puzzle, the latter revived by the flavor anomalies, triggered new type ofmodel building: ”data-driven”, ”simplified”, ”bottom-up”; Broad rangeof (novel) signatures and correlations; multi-experiments (directdetection, axion serach, collider, astro, cosmo,..)

Allanach,Ruderman, private comm.

12

Feebleness

Bauer E.g.: goldstones, new gauge bosons, ”axions, hidden/dark photons”, slow decays (by

kinematics)

strategies: high statistics, displaced vertices, exotic decays of Z,H,B,D∗, µ, ....; signatures at many

exp settings

13

8Be anomaly

Simon King light Z′ with feeble g ∼ 10−4, g′ ∼ 10−5 and lepton -nonuniversal interactions, M ∼ 17

MeV

14

dark, darker,...

The particle physics connection

Bauer, Schwaller, Tytgat, Goertz, Covi, Hati, May,Reig, King,Arias-Aragon

15

Minimal ADM, mν and BAU

asymmetric dark matter scen. mDM ∼ 5mp gives ΩDM ' 5Ω;”minimal” 2 RH neutrinos, SM×SU(2)D × Z3

Covi

Works with Yukwas with large CP-phase; only one Majoranaphase a low enery; effective mass

meff = |∑miU

2ei| within few meV.

16

Flavorful dark matter

QCD × QCDDARK ; colored heavy mediator, couples to SM quarkflavors; light dark pions m ∼ GeV

Schwaller

Dark pions with or without flavor light, long-lived; searchable in fixed target and ∆F = 1 invisible

decays (Belle II, NA62), and fixed target πD → SM pions, K. ”emerging jets-signatures”

17

Flavor hierachies and strong CP

Horizontal U(1)H to explain SM flavor hierachies (masses, CKM);Peccei-Quinn axion from U(1)PQ to explain smallness of EDMs (ϑ);take one scalar:field for both: Φ = 1/

√2(vϕ + ϕ) exp ia/vϕ, where ϕ:

lavon, a: axiflavon/ (pseudo)goldstone, light

Goertz

Link with flavor and axion very predictive – in reach of NA 62 K → πa;Axiflavon can be CDM if

ma . 10−4 − 10−5 eV.

18

dark, darker,...

The (very) LHC-friendly connection

Harz, Lucente, Schwaller, Soualah, Hung

19

Testing Leptogenesis – heavy RH neutrino decays

Neutrino masses from GeV seesaw with feeble Yukawas; 3 RHneutrinos mv ∼ v2F 1

MF ' 0.3(GeV

M)( F2

10−14 ) eV low scale leptogenesisphenomenology with ∼ GeV heavy RH neutrinos.

Lucente

Exploration for pp and heavy metal (ion) collisions, from W and B-decays. Suggests opportunity for

Argon. Simple model (HNL) – other models as well testable.

20

Testing dark matter and more

Feebly-interacting dark matter through Freeze-inL = SM+ singlet scalar S + SU(2)L-singlet vector-like fermions F ;Yukawa-portal yf FSfSM to SM-fermions + Z2-symmetry

HarzFF -pair production and slow decay to DM plus SM-lepton or quark. For hadronic mode reach at 13

TeV LHC up to mF ∼ 1.8 TeV. Determination of mF and cτ allows to understand relation with relic

density – sensitive to reheating temperature TR; Vector-like fermions, LLPs, also Hung

21

dark, darker,...

The Astro- connection

Randall, Stefanek, Ruderman, Kuehnel, Yamazaki

22

ALPs in GR waves

S =∫d4x√−g(

1/2dµϕdµϕ− V (ϕ)− 1/4XµνXµν − α4fϕXµνXµν

), expl breaking

V = m2f2[1− cosϕ/f ] Dark photon X and axion-like particle (ALP) ϕ

Stefanek

ALP reach in Pulsar Timing Arrays (green), LISA (red), future highfrrequencey detectors (blue) Sensitivity to large decay constants inGR - complementarity to other ALP searches

23

DM, post-modern

1.new ideas from particle physics for astonomy: Darkly charged DM(self-interacting, not necessarily with SM) viable!

Randall

2. Dwarf galaxies challenge ΛCDM

24

Dark photons in 21 cm CMB

Upsetting photon spectra thu interaction with dark photons (theycould come from dark matter ALP), e.g ma = 10−3eV, τa ' 1012y,ε ∼ 10−7

Ruderman

”probing the low end of the CMB – a new arena for particle physics”

25

FLAVOR

26

Flavor

12+4 TH contributions partial overlap with feeble-world

Flavor puzzle/ flavor origins Steven King, Dev, Soualah, May,Rowley, Goertz, Hati (horizontal/family, Left-right symmetries)

anomalies Soni, Gisbert, Hati, Toledo, Heeck,Straub, Allanach,Angelescu, Hormigos, May, Rowley,Arias-Aragon

27

Anomalies

– ε′/ε ? Gisbert finds ε′/ε compatible with SM

–g − 2 Hormigos asymptotically safe BSM

– RD∗ , RDπ τ vs e, µ lepton universality Toledo changed SM prediction

– RK , RK∗ : µ vs e lepton universality1. Leptoquarks,2. Z ′,3. model-independent

Leptons maybe more different than we thought. Hints for leptonnon-universality triggered new bottom-up model building and couldhelp to progress with flavor. Correlations, e.g. LFV, direct searches,K,D,B copiously, help narrow down model. Great opportunity, so..

Summary Summary

SM is alive, but challenged from increasing number of strategies

We are still in business with RK = 0.846+0.060+0.016−0.054−0.014 LHCb Humair with

RK ’14 and follow-ups – Looking forward to check lepton-universalityfurther in K, charm and B’s, and beyond.

Not just ”a hint”. but one that deeply rooted in flavor. If true it is agreat opportunity

It’s been a terrific week with great talks and discussions. Continue tomkae sure that no stone left unturned.
