The first flight

• They Followed the work of Otto Lilienthal

• Tested wing designs

• Designed the “flyer”

• First attempt at flying at Kitty Hawk failed

• Returned the following year

After Kitty Hawk

• Wilbur flew 24 miles (1905)

• Contract with U.S. War Department (1908)

• Showed their flights around the world

• Wilbur died in 1912 leaving Orville with the company

• Orville sells company in 1915
