Each semester, approximately 90 students participate in the Student Employment Initiative program. (and increasing)
They will serve in various UTB/TSC departments within Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Business Affairs, Institutional Advancement, President’s Office, and more.

Background: SEI opportunities on campus
Positively affect the retention of program participants
Positively affect the retention of the students they work with
Gives students an opportunity to work on campus and create critical campus connections
Allows us to tap into support services for other students by utilizing our own students as mentors, facilitators, etc.
Allows us to raise our overall retention rate
Positively impact our students’ time to graduate
Eligibility for the SEI Program:
SEI students must be undergraduates with no history of completing a bachelor’s degree
SEI students must meet and maintain enrollment criteria during current semester of employment Fall: at least 15 credit hours Spring: at least 15 credit hours Summer: at least 6 credit hours combined between May and the

SEI students must have and maintain a 2.75 Cumulative GPA
SEI students must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours in residence at UTB/TSC
Complete 70% of credit hours attempted

US citizen, Resident or F-1 Visa (for International Students) Sect. II
SEI students will work in a job related to his/her major field of study or career interest when possible
SEI students will work a minimum of 10 no more than 20 hours a week
SEI students will receive a wage of $9.00 the Student Employment Initiative will cover 75% of the salary and the assigned department will cover the remaining 25%.
SEI Departmental Allocations Allocations are for a maximum of 15 weeks, 20 hrs/p
week, $9.00 p/hr, $2,700 encumbered amount.
Departments should set-aside $742.50 ($675+ $67.50) to meet the 25% costs of their allocations
Allocations can be split in half to create two 10hrs/p week positions
Fall/Spring 2009-2010, about 90 positions have been created within SEI. Summer 2010 allocations are contingent upon available funds
SEI --DOES NOT guarantee that departments will receive the same number of allocations for the next fiscal year and SEI program will only fund 75% of encumbered amount.

Internship Descriptions: (to be used in the Request/Justification form)
Peer Mentor/Tutor: Helps students to better understand the fundamental concepts and processes inherent in the topics they are studying.
Lab Coordinator: Responsibilities may include attending and supporting students in labs, configuration, exploration, and management of resources, helping students individually, and holding office hours.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader: The SI leader is a guide who helps other students share and master information as a group. The SI leader attends the course for which he/she is assigned and, in evening sessions, works with students to review lecture notes, clarify text material, prepare for tests, and evaluate and improve learning strategies.

Instructional Assistant: A student is assigned to a faculty member to assist with in-class instructions and/or out-of-class support.
Office Operations Assistant: Responsibilities may include assisting in the operations of an on-campus department such as marketing, publicity, coordination of activities, website maintenance, administrative and services support.
Research Assistant: A student assigned to a faculty or staff member to assist in research projects by gathering data or samples, utilizing computer software to obtain and manipulate data, maintaining records and files and conducting surveys and/or studies.
NOTE: For PAF purpose Job title for all positions will be “SEI Intern”
