W e are now 120 days into the new era of Balcones Country Club
and Arnold Palmer Golf Management and I feel we are seeing the benefits every day. Ac-tivity has increased at the club with the addi-tion of new members. New events are being scheduled and hours of operation along with
higher staffing levels have increased. We are at approximately 418 full-privilege members and 777 total members. This gets us back to about where we were one year ago before our large drop in membership. Between all membership cate-gories we have added 51 members to the club in May.
Continued on pg. 2
Continued from pg. 1 We still need your help. We are MBIO, which is Mem-bership By Invitation Only. Any referrals given to our Membership Director, Amy Mocniak, will be sent an invi-tation, on your behalf, to join the club. That is where our membership comes into play. We need your referrals to make this process work. This will help the club get to the magic number of 576, which is our Capital Fund Trigger. Once the membership roster reaches that number of full-privilege members, APGM puts half the dues paid each month by the members that contribute to the Capital Fund into an account. The dollars gener-ated by this fund will be used, at the member’s discre-tion, for improvements to the club. The members will decide how that money is to be used. This year the Development Board is focused on adding members to the club. This board also serves as our Ambassador Committee for helping new members get involved in the club. We would like to make sure that new members become part of the Balcones family as soon as possible. It is a new exciting time at Balcones and a great time for prospective members to join the club. I thank you in ad-vance for your help in making our club better.
Mark Riddle Chairman Development Board
T his has been an outstanding year for the BCCWA, and our success was due to the combined ef-forts of the WA mem-bers, BCC Staff, and the BCC Membership and guests.
At the May 21, 2009, WA luncheon, we an-nounced the names of 6 deserving Westwood High School students. Each received a $2,000 Scholarship. The students attended the luncheon with their parents and each gave a brief talk. The students receiving scholar-ships were Miranda Burris, Alicia Carter, Nicholas DeChant, Claire Hinton, Ciara Speaks, and Wesley Miller. We are very proud of these students and wish them suc-cess. The WA Board for 2009-2010 was installed at the May luncheon. The Women’s Association voted to set up a BCCWA Scholarship Foundation, which will be governed by a Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees will be responsible for es-tablishing and running the Foundation. Phyllis Janson would like to thank the last year’s officers, committee chairwomen, and committee members for their contributions to this successful year. There are no luncheons scheduled for June, July, and August. Check the Tempo for news of the September 2009 program. The Market Days Committee and the BCCWA Board will be meeting during the summer. If you are interested in volunteering for any of next year’s committees, please contact Janie Wil-liams, President. Phyllis Janson will be the Chair-person for the Market Days Event to be held on October 23 and 24, 2009, at the Balcones Country Club. If you would like to help with Market Days, please call Phyllis Janson.

Farmer’s Market
Caprese Bruschetta
Ingredients
1 loaf baguette, cut into 1/2-inch thick slices
(about 30 to 36 slices)
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
salt and freshly ground black pepper
5 roma or heirloom tomatoes, sliced
1 1/4 pounds fresh mozzarella, sliced
1 bunch fresh basil leaves, stemmed aged balsamic vinegar
Directions
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees
Arrange the sliced baguette bread on a baking sheet. Brush with some of the olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Bake until the bread is pale golden and crisp, about 5 minutes. Remove from the oven. Top each slice of bread with a slice of tomato and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Top each slice of tomato with a slice of mozza-rella and sprinkle with salt. Return the baking sheet to the oven until the cheese and tomato are warmed, about 5 minutes.
Arrange the toasts on a serving platter. Top each toast with a basil leaf. Using the brush, drizzle the remaining olive oil over the basil. Sprinkle with salt and pep-per, drizzle with aged balsamic and serve.

WOW! The shark season is off the starting blocks and running fast!
June is a very busy month for the Sharks; we will be having four dual swim meets, three home – one away, three pep-rallies, summer practice schedule starts and our coach led swim clinics and lessons start. May was a very hectic month for the Sharks, every year there seam to be new challenges for us to work with, this season it was the painting of the Spicewood pool. After many volunteer hours and help from Kirk and his staff the Spicewood pool has never looked better. I even heard there was a pirate attack at the pool and they left a 22 foot shark in the bottom.
Shark events for June:
June 5th pep rally – Balcones pool
June 6th Dual Swim meet Sharks vs Piranhas—Home
June 12th pep rally – Balcones pool
June 13th dual Swim Meet
Sharks vs Typhoons– Home
June 20th Dual Swim Meet Sharks vs Armada – Away
June 26th pep rally – Balcones pool
June 27th Dual Swim Meet Sharks vs Marlins—Home
Home Swim Meets – due to the number of swimmers involved and our four lane pool we will be starting in the pre-dawn hours, meet to start a 7am. On home swim meet dates the Sharks will make every effort to keep most of the Balcones parking lot open for non swim meet parking. The swimming pool will be opening late on these dates – possibly close to 2pm. The Sharks want to thank the support from our entire membership and APGM. This successful program could not have survived for over 30 years with out your support. Come out and enjoy watching your Sharks compete at our home swim meets. www.bccsharks.org
