Creating a Source Verified Branded 14R Ranch Navajo Beef Program
14R Ranch History• Nahata Dziil means “planning in strength” in the Navajo language.• Initially was call “Yearly Enhancement Program” back in 2011, started by
Bill Inman and 14R Ranchers.• In 2012, 14R was form by partnership with different entities.
– 240,000 acres ranch located in Sanders, Arizona on Navajo Nation.– There are 14 range units, with average 18,000 acres per range unit, with 30 of
79 permittees are in the Navajo Beef program.– Normal grazing maximum capacity is 1,000 animal unit for 79 grazing
permittees• In 2013, 14R was incorporated under Navajo Nation as a Non-profit
Organization.• In 2014, due to increase demand for Navajo Beef, 14R partnered with
Navajo Nation Livestock producers by doing out reach through out the Navajo Nation.
• “Native Beef” was formed with other tribes and along with providing outreach programs.
• Award the Casino Navajo Beef People Choice Award for 2014
Mission Statement• To support producers of source-verified, high quality Navajo
Beef; educate and advocate for land and water stewardship and conservation; and to integrate modern ranching practices while preserving our traditional sustainable ways.
14R Ranch Navajo Beef Prog• Standard Requirement:
1. Calf must be weaned and precondition for 45 days2. Castrated, dehorned, and vaccinated3. Record keeping requirements:
a) Date of birthb) Vaccination recordsc) Heavy Angus or English influenced) Cows and Calves inventorye) Brand, Brand inspection, Calf sell contractf) 14R ear tags, IMI ear tags and calves weight
4. Calves are evaluated and group accordingly5. Cowboys helping with vaccination6. IMI Global Age and Source Calving Certification

2015 14R Ranch Fall Calf Sale• Challenges
– Continue to improve bull’s genetics base on feedlot and harvest data to improve feeding efficiency, to improve marketing , etc.
– Continue to promote Navajo Beef/Native Beef program by doing more out reach presentations for Navajo producers and other tribal producers due to high demand for Navajo Beef and Native Beef product.
– Due to drought: We need to continue to increasing staging areas, by having better working relationship with ONHIR in-order to have more access to available grass bank, and to implementing infrastructure in the staging areas.
– To educate and work with our government and leaders about protesting our natural resources and the environment.

Future Business Plan• Continue to plan for sustainable organization due to ONHIR
phase out/ budget cut by the US government• Currently working on 501-(c) (3) IRS application to improve
our process and to be self-sufficient organization.• Currently working on the future infrastructure for 14R, to
implement plan of operation, and maintenance practice by utilizing PL 93-638 Federal Program under BIA, to get direct funding and alone with NN support.
• Continue to work with First Nation, NRCS, Fish & Wild Life, etc. to propose and implement land stewardship and conservation projects.
