More than 300nudists from the east, south and middle-west were expected by this afternoon.Four policemen stood at the campʼs sin-gle entrance gate to examine credentialsof of those who claimed to be conventiondelegates.

• Farmer Charles Sadilʼs chickenswent home to roost for the last time. Alightning bolt struck his poultry shed killingall of them - an even one hundred.

50 YEARS AGOTuesday, August 21, 1962

• A man who canʼt read or write hasbeen sentenced to two years in prison forforgery. Judge Jack A. Falk sentencedWillie Robinson, 29, Monday after hearingtestimony from Lonnie Armstrong, 37,who said Robinson talked him into draw-ing up a few checks just how to see howit was done. Armstrong said he thought allthe practice checks were destroyed , butRobinson apparently held out a few, en-dorsed them with an “X” and cashedthem.

• Mayor Albert P. Delsandro of Denorasays the town is studying the possibilty ofleasing an idle U.S. Steel Corp mill andhaving it operated by unemployed steel-workers. “We are doing everything to helpourselves,” Mayor Delsandro said. “Wedonʼt want charity. We donʼt want sympa-thy. Our basic theory is hard work.”

• A report was received at 2:36 p.m.Sunday that a motorist “bumped into” thecomplainant as she was walking in the 3000block of Broadway. The victim was not in-jured but didnʼt believe the elderly maledriver should be operating a vehicle.

• A sheriffʼs office report was received at

12:59 p.m. Friday of an accident near the in-tersection of Highway 52 and Marina BluffsCourt.

INCIDENTS• A report was received at 2:20 p.m. Fri-

day that items were stolen from a residencein the 2900 block of Broadway.

• A report was received at 3:47 p.m. Fri-day that a woman had received a call froma male claiming to be her grandson. He saidhe was in an accident in Rome, Italy, andneeded $1,300 for the hospital bill. Afterwiring the money, the woman realized it wasa scam. She was informed of her options.

• A report was received at 7:05 p.m. Fri-day of three rummage sale signs stolen inthe 600 block of West Fifth St.

• A report was received at 8:42 p.m. Fri-day of an accident in the 200 block ofBroadway.

• A report was received at 9:27 p.m. Fri-day of a small grass fire in the 1500 block ofMulberry.

• An officer observed a male kick over aflower pot in downtown Yankton along ThirdSt. at 1:57 a.m. Saturday. The incident ledto a foot pursuit, and the suspect was ar-rested for fleeing. The flower pot was placedin the upright position and was notdamaged.

• A report was received at 2:17 a.m. Sat-urday of a possible burglary in progress inthe 200 block of West Third St. Two maleswere arrested for entering or refusing toleave a property after notice.

• A report was received at 4:56 a.m. Sat-urday of a person making “unreasonablenoise” in the 400 block of Picotte. A malewas advised not to howl.

• A report was received at 8:37 a.m. Sat-urday that a money bag with approximately$1,000 was dropped. When the bag wasfound, the money was gone.

• A report was received at 10:52 a.m.Saturday that a man was washing his feetin the sink of a business in the 1100 blockof Broadway. He had been told two dayspreviously not to return to the building. Thesuspect was arrested for trespassing.

• A report was received at 11:13 a.m.Saturday that a set of keys was lost in River-side Park on Friday.

• A report was received at 12:01 p.m.Saturday of fuel leaking out of a vehicle inthe 100 block of Walnut. The owner shut offthe pump causing the problem. The fire de-partment cleaned up the fuel on the ground.

• A report was received at 1:36 p.m. Sat-urday that a wallet and cell phone had beenstolen in the 100 block of East Third St. theprevious night.

• A report was received at 2:50 p.m. Sat-urday that a teenage male suspect hadstolen a white bicycle in the 1000 block ofWalnut.

• A report was received at 3:43 p.m. Sat-urday that an ATM card was stolen after itwas left in an ATM machine in the 2400block of Broadway.

• A report was received at 8:35 p.m. Sat-urday that someone who owed a businessalong East Highway 50 money was attempt-ing to fill up with gas. The complainant re-fused to turn on the pump, and the malecustomer threw the pump handle to theground before leaving. The individual at the

business did not know if the handle wasdamaged.

• A report was received at 9:35 p.m. Sat-urday that a tip jar was stolen from a vendorin Riverside Park.

• A man was arrested for trespassingafter he climbed to the top of a constructionscaffold in the 100 block of Capitol St. justafter midnight Sunday.

• An officer was flagged down at 12:40a.m. Sunday by a male in the 100 block ofEast Third St. who had a cut on his foot. Hedidnʼt want medical attention and had a ridecoming to get him. No further action wastaken.

• A report was received at 2:10 a.m.Sunday that a male body slammed a femaleto the ground in the 300 block of Maple St.The individuals could not be located.

• A report was received at 2:15 a.m.Sunday of a fight in the 300 block of CedarSt. The parties were separated after push-ing each other and sent on their way.

• A report was received at 2:39 a.m.Sunday of an angry female in he 200 blockof Capitol complaining about a parkingissue. A male was arrested for disorderlyconduct.

• A report was received at 5:06 a.m.Sunday of a fight in the 900 block ofBurleigh. Two males were arrested for flee-ing law enforcement.

• A report was received at 5:26 a.m.Sunday that a male was assaulted by an-other male. The suspect was arrested forsimple assault.

• A report was received at 9:28 a.m.Sunday of a domestic assault in the 300block of Pearl St. A female was arrested.

• A report was received at 11:49 a.m.Sunday of an assault in the 1000 block ofWalnut St. A male and female claimed eachwas assaulted by the other.

• A report was received at 12:21 p.m.Sunday of a gas drive-off valued at $10 froma business in the 100 block of East FourthSt.

• A report was received at 12:37 p.m.Sunday that a pickup tire had been slashedin the 1700 block of Capital St.

• A report was received at 1:32 p.m.Sunday that a man had threatened the com-plainant with a knife during a parking spotdispute at Riverside Park. The suspect was

located at the park and advised he was in-volved with a dispute but did not pull a knife.The man said he had pointed a lighter at thecomplainant. The suspect was spoken withabout his actions.

• A report was received at 4:06 p.m.Sunday that two bicycles were stolen in the100 block of East 16th St.

• A report was received at 5:15 p.m.Sunday that two individuals left a businessin the 2200 block of Broadway without pay-ing a $29 bill.

• A report was received at 7:42 a.m.Monday that a female kicked a juvenile malein the 2200 block of Green St. Police wereunable to locate the suspect.

• A report was received at 9:49 a.m.Monday that the complainantʼs grand-daughter had a knife pulled on her duringthe weekend.

• A sheriffʼs office report was received at8:15 a.m. Friday of a burglary along Meck-ling St. in Gayville.

• A sheriffʼs office report was received at11:07 a.m. Friday of a theft along MecklingSt. in Gayville.

• A sheriffʼs office report was received at6:53 p.m. Friday of a theft along ArmstrongSt. in Gayville.

• A sheriffʼs office report was received at2:17 p.m. Saturday of a gas drive-off from abusiness along Highway 52.

• A sheriffʼs office report was received at4:22 p.m. Saturday of an accident near theintersection of 434th Ave. and 300th St. inrural Lesterville. A Sioux Falls man waseastbound on 300th St. driving a 2000Honda Passport. The vehicle rolled and wasconsidered a total loss. The driver was air-lifted for a Sioux City, Iowa, hospital. The ac-cident is being investigated by the HighwayPatrol.
