The Murder Trial

Type of Documentary

This documentary has a narration as well as observations, interviews and archived footage.

This means that it is a mixed documentary.The main theme is murder with the Husband

of the assumed victim pleading innocence to the murder.

Narration

Voice of God without any particular accent.Male narrator- has the control and authority

and is able to describe the events which led to the murder.

It is closed because all of the information that we need to know is told and it is single stranded as it is only about one topic.

It is chronological as it goes in time with the events leading up to the alleged murder.

Archived Footage

There is archived footage of the trial itself.

Archived footage of the murder scene is also present.

Footage of her on holiday in 1992 is visible.

Camera

Some of the footage is handheld but there is footage from the trial that isn’t.

Tripods are used for the cameras to keep them still on witnesses, suspects and judges.

Close ups are used on key people in court such as the judge, members of the jury and the suspects’ defence.

Interview Setup

There are very little interviews in this documentary but the ones that are present use the rule of thirds.

The interviewee is side on to the camera which is an unconventional technique in interviews.

No subtitles are used because it is already explained by the narrator who the person is.

Mise-en-scene

People are dressed in suits as there is filming from court.

Judges are dressed in robes and wear wigs as this is their dress code in court.

Graphics

Opening details to help the viewers to understand what the documentary is about.

There are no subtitles for people taking part in the documentary as the narrator introduces them as they come on screen.
