Step 2 Laying in the background wash. For the background wash create a mix from Vermillion, Lemon Yellow and Yellow Ochre in equal proportions and mix them with water so the mix has the viscosity of milk. Lay this wash in across the top of the page and with horizontal strokes slowly move down the paper. Once you have finished the wash, take a tissue and remove it [the colour] by blotting it out. Refer to the image to see the areas of colour that need removing.
When painting wildlife artthe drawing must be correctbefore you commit to adding
the paint, don’t add detail at this point either. So take
your time with this important step.
Step 1
Drawing up the Fox. Refer to the last page of this PDF. With the HB pencil draw it up as well as you can onto some Mont Marte 300 gsm watercolour paper. I have taped the sheet on to a board with gaffa tape. You might like to create a grid over the fox a nd transfer it like that.

Step 3
Laying on the 2 nd tone. Take the first mix that was created and add to it a dab of Lemon Yellow and some Crimson red. Mix these up and paint it into the appropriate area of the fox. Again refer to the final image on this PDF to see where this tone lies. Use the # 2 mop brush to apply this.
Step 4
Laying on the 3 rd tone. Now take the existing mix, and to that add a spot of Burnt Umber. The final image on this PDF will show you where to lay in this colour..
Step 5
Adding the Grey. Squeeze out some black onto the palette. Mix some water in with the Black and lay it in to the areas of shadow. Pay close attention to the strength of each tone, and start with your light tones.
