Barbershoppers actively support comrn.unity-service projects and local charities, and contribute many man-hours for churches, schools, hospitals and retirementhomes. In addition, most of the organization's chapters stage at least one annualshow bringing featured quartets and choruses to the comrn.unity.
Harmony Foundation is the Society's charity. Through contributions to the HarmonyFoundation General Fund grants are made to projects that support the SPEBSQSAcharitable mission: "to preserve our musical legacy through support of vocal musiceducation in our schools and communities." The Foundation also maintains an en-dowment program for the Society and seeks grants and sponsorships for worthwhilebarbershop projects.
With such a wide range of activities to enjoy, it's easy to understand why SPEBSQSAmembers tend to extend their membership throughout their lifetime. Although mostmen join for the music, most stay in the organization because of the strong, deepfriendships they build by raising their voices in song with other congenial men ofgood character.
