“The Days of Noah”

Matthew 24:37-39Matthew 24:37-39For the coming of the Son of Man will be

just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood

they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that

Noah entered the ark,and they did not understand until the

flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Ephesians 6:10-13Ephesians 6:10-13Finally, grow powerful in union with the Lord, in union with his mighty strength! Use all the armor and weaponry that God

provides, so that you will be able to stand against the deceptive tactics of the

Adversary. For we are not struggling against human beings, but against the rulers, authorities and cosmic powers governing this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly

realm.

About the Time of the End, a body of men will be raised up who will turn their attention to the Prophecies, and insist upon their literal interpretations, in the midst of much clamor and opposition.

“The Days of Noah”

• Why did God bring such a devastating judgment upon the Earth?

• Why were only eight people saved?

• What Did the Lord mean when He warned that His coming would be Consitant in Nature with the Days of Noah.—Matthew 24:37

• Just who were the “Nephilim”? What did Jesus mean when He said, “As the days of Noah were, so shall the days of the coming of the Son of Man be”?

Genesis 3:15Genesis 3:15

I will put animosity between you and the woman, and between your descendant and her descendant; he will bruise your

head, and you will bruise his heel.”

Genesis 6:1-5Genesis 6:1-5

Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and

daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were

beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one

hundred and twenty years."

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore {children} to them. Those were the mighty men who {were} of old, men of

renown.

Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart

was only evil continually.

Hebrews 11:7Hebrews 11:7

By faith Noah, being warned {by God} about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the

world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to

faith.

1 Peter 3:18-201 Peter 3:18-20

For Christ also died for sins once for all, {the} just for {the} unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits

{now} in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the

ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through {the} water.

Jude 1:8-9Jude 1:8-9

Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject

authority, and revile angelic majesties. But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued

about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing

judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

2 Cor 11:13-142 Cor 11:13-14

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves

as apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an

angel of light.

II Thes. 2:8-10II Thes. 2:8-10

Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of

His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is the one

whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false

wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so

as to be saved.

Names Have Meaning

Eve = Life-giver; Mother of all living Gen 3:20

Cain = Acquired Gen 4:4 Seth = Appointed Gen 4:25

Abraham = Father of many nations Gen17:5

Enoch = Teaching; Initiation; Commencement

First presentation of the Gospel in Old Testament: Genealogy from Chapter 5

Adam = ManSeth = AppointedEnosh = MortalKenan = SorrowMahalalel = The Blessed GodJared = Shall come downEnoch = TeachingMethuselah = His Death shall bringLamech = The DespairingNoah = Rest, Comfort

Apostasy begins in Gen 4:26Gen 4:26:

“Then men began to profane the name of the Lord” [“call somethingby the name of the Lord...”]

Targum of Onkelos: “...desisted from praying in the name...”Targum of Jonathan: “surnamed their idols in the name...”Kimchi, Rashi, & other ancient Jewish commentators agree. Jerome indicates this opinion of many Jews of his day.Maimonides, Commentary on the Mishna (a constituentpart of the Talmud), A.D. 1168, ascribes the origin of idolatry to the days of Enos.

Four generations of prophets/preachers: • Enoch• Methuselah • Lamech • Noah

Prophecy before the Flood

Maranatha”: the Lord cometh!

Jude 14-15Jude 14-15

Moreover, Hanokh, in the seventh generation starting with Adam, also

prophesied about these men, saying, “Look! Adonai came with his myriads of

holy ones 15 to execute judgment against everyone, that is, to convict all the godless

for their godless deeds which they have done in such a godless way, and for all the harsh words these godless sinners have

spoken against him.”

Four Facts emphasized by Enoch’s Prophecy:

1. We know the Lord’s coming is sure.2. We know who will accompany the

Lord.3. We know the purpose of His coming.4. We know the result of the Lord’s

coming.

Enoch translated midway between Adam and Abraham;

Elijah, midway between Abraham and Christ;

Both ministered in times of deep apostasy.Enoch’s earliest prophecy not these words

in Jude, but the name of his son (Noah’s grandfather), Enoch “walked with God”

after he begat:

Methuselah Gen 5:21-24Muth = “to die”; Shalak = “to send forth” send judgment on the earth.

When Methuselah died, judgment was sent.He was the oldest man in the Bible: 969 yrs (Gen5:27).

God is not willing that any perish (2 Pet 3:8, 9).

Noah “Walked with God:” Heb 11:7Heb 11:7Pedigree: “without blemish”;

uncontaminated.

Genesis 6: 1 - 4Genesis 6: 1 - 4

More and more people were born, until finally they spread all over the earth.

Some of their daughters were so beautiful that supernatural beings

came down and married the ones they wanted.

Gen 6:1-2Gen 6:1-2

Then men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to

them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.

NIV

B’nai Elohim = “Angels of God” Sons of God. All references are to Angels. A direct creation of God. Adam was a direct creation. We are the sons of Adam and made to be sons of God. Job 1:6; 2:1 Job 1:6; 2:1 38:738:7 (shouted for joy at creation) (presented themselves before God)

US: John 1:11, 12John 1:11, 124X + Adam + Christ

Benoth Adam= Daughters of Adam.

Nephilim = “fallen ones.” Progeny were monstrous.

Naphal = to fall; “Gigantes” “earth-born” [NOT giants!] Ancient mythology

also records similar events. Fallen Angels and the Heroes of Mythology,

by John Fleming.

Titans: origin = partly terrestrial, partly celestial. Rebelled

against their father Uranus (heaven); after prolonged contest were defeated by

Zeus and condemned into Tartarus.

Anakim “...and also after that...” Num Num 13:3313:33. Bedstead of one of them = 13 ft long (Deut 3:11Deut 3:11). Men of Israel “as grasshoppers” (Num 13:33; Amos 2:9Num 13:33; Amos 2:9).[Why does Israel refer to their 2nd appearance as Nephilim (= “fallen ones”) ?] Goliath + 4 brothers: 2 Sam 21:15-22.2 Sam 21:15-22.

II Peter 2:4-5II Peter 2:4-5

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and

committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a

preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon

the world of the ungodly;

Angels that sinned left a heavenly domain to live among men and we

desire earnest to have our heavenly body to live among the angels. Linked

the angels with the Days of Noah.

Jude 1:6Jude 1:6

And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds

under darkness for the judgment of the great day,

Jude 6: The Angels that Sinned:

Language of Jude 7 seems to require same view of Jude 6: “strangeflesh....”

Nature of Angels1. Appear in human form: Gen 19:5, 10,16.Gen 19:5, 10,16.

2. Spoke as men, took men by hand, even ate men’s food: Gen 18:8; 19:3, 16Gen 18:8; 19:3, 16. Don’t marry (in heaven): Matthew 22:30.Matthew 22:30.

3. Capable of direct physical combat: Death of the Firstborn in Egypt; Exodus 12Exodus 12; Sodom & Gomorrah; Genesis 19Genesis 19; 185,000 troops slaughtered; 2 Kings 19:352 Kings 19:35.

4. Behind world powers: Daniel 10Daniel 10.

Scripture warns against meddling with the spirit world. Punishment overtaking the angels that sinned is to emphasize the serious nature of apostasy: beings of

a higher order than ours have been hurled down into a dark place of confinement where they have remained for thousands of years.

God has not changed His attitude toward them; time has not mitigated the seriousness

of their sin. False teachers are prewritten into condemnation.

Pawnee Legend"while we were in the sandhills, scouting the

Niobrara country, the Pawnee Indians brought into camp some very large bones, one of which the

surgeon of the expedition pronounced to be the eye bone of a human being. The Indians said the

bones were those of a race of people who long ago had lived in that country. They said The's people

were three times the size of the man of the present day, that they were so swift and strong that they could run by the side of a buffalo and taking the

animal and one arm, could tear off a lady and eat it as they ran." Col. Wm. F. Cody, 1920
