Crisman. Both of these uncles lived longer than Andrew Jackson Crisman. Who is Mizes

This more likely to be John Edward Crissman (born 13 Oct 1853 Bedford Co., PA; died 29 Sep

This is the only brother of W.B. Crissman with 2 daughters.

Roy Crisman is on the 1917 Basketball Team at Aggie School in Brookings, SD. Leo and

This is the St. Thomas, Virgin Islands during WWI. Grandpa Roy told us that the coal was
loaded by women carrying the baskets on their head.
Leo and Roy were on the USS Dubuque (PG-17). Leo was a Seaman 2nd
class. Roy was a 2nd
Class Metalsmith. Roy had blacksmith experience from Aggie School. His skipper promoted him
to Petty Officer Second Class.
Leo and Roy enlisted into the U.S. Navy during WWI. The Navy had a program called “Brother
Duty”. They went to Great Lakes Navy Boot Camp. They were part of the “Living Flag”
formation. Leo and Roy were assigned to the USS Dubuque (PG-17). At the start of WWI USS
Dubuque was assigned convoy escort duty. On July 25, 1918 she reported to the French Division
of the Caribbean Patrol operating out of St. Thomas, Virgin Island. Operation PATROL CLASP;
her mission was to investigate harbors and inlets in the islands of the Caribbean and Columbia,
searching for German submarines. Her service earned the WWI Victory Medal.

The memorial service for Leo was at the Wagner Theater.
Naval Hospital St Thomas Virgin Island; Leo passed away from septicemia on 4 Aug 1918.
Leo was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
