Parish Statement
We, the people of God called to be the Catholic Community of St. Cecilia, are a diverse and multi-cultural
community of believers, joined together by a common bond of love for our Lord Jesus Christ while preserving
the uniqueness and traditions of our ethnicity. With a united spirit, we strive to serve our Lord, His
Church, and our community through prayer, worship, ministry and evangelization, and to share our faith
and our talents in service to one another.
We are happy to welcome
all of you back to Sunday
and Daily Masses. While
we can only have a limited
number of people, we hope
the numbers will increase
as we go along. Thank
you for cooperating with wearing a mask, practicing
social distancing and bringing your own sanitizer and
wipes. By following the basic rules, it will help us to
eventually open the Church properly. We are not
powerless in the face of this threat. We have the
power of prayer and we have an all powerful God who
could end this crisis whenever He wills. If you are
feeling overwhelmed or tormented by fear, pour out
your heart to our loving savior Jesus Christ. He is the
divine mercy of God. The prayer of faith strengthens
us and gives us the confidence to face each day with
joy and hope. May God and our Blessed mother
intercede for you and your families.

FR. SCOTT’S FAREWELL LETTER
First and foremost, I would like to thank Fr. John Wassell
and the parishioners of St. Cecilia’s for their warm wel-
come and hospitality over the past couple of years. It has
been almost two years that I have been here and I cannot
thank you enough for your gracious welcome. It has been a
pleasure meeting you and ministering to you!
During the past semester, I have had the opportunity to pray
and discern where the Lord is calling me. I have enjoyed
my time at “Oratory Prep” School, not just in the classroom,
but also in working with the young men and their families.
At this point in my ministry, I will be returning to the Dio-
cese of Providence at the end of this academic year.
Buddy, my little Yorkie-Poo, and I will be moving to New-
port, RI. I will be continuing in Catholic education as the
University Chaplain at Salve Regina University while ad-
ministering pastorally to the community at St. Joseph
Church. I understand I have been here a short time, but I
would like to reiterate that I have appreciated and will con-
tinue to appreciate every moment that I spend with you until
June 7th. Thank you!

SUNDAY BIBLE REFLECTION BY DR. HAHN
God is always teaching His people, we hear in today’s
First Reading. And what does He want us to know?
That He has care for all of us, that though He is a God
of justice, even those who defy and disbelieve Him
may hope for His mercy if they turn to Him in
repentance. This divine teaching continues in the
three parables that Jesus tells in the Gospel today.
Each describes the emergence of the kingdom of God
from the seeds sown by His works and preaching. The
kingdom’s growth is hidden—like the working of
yeast in bread; it’s improbable, unexpected—as in the
way the tall mustard tree grows from the smallest of
seeds. Again this week’s readings sound a note of
questioning: Why does God permit the evil to grow
alongside the good? Why does He permit some to
reject the Word of His kingdom? Because, as we sing
in today’s Psalm, God is slow to anger and abounding
in kindness. He is just, Jesus assures us—evildoers
and those who cause others to sin will be thrown into
the fiery furnace at the end of the age. But by His
patience, God is teaching us—that above all He
desires repentance, and the gathering of all nations to
worship Him and to glorify His name. Even though
we don’t know how to pray as we ought, the Spirit
will intercede for us, Paul promises in today’s Epistle.
But first we must turn and call upon Him, we must
commit ourselves to letting the good seed of His
Word bear fruit in our lives. So we should not be
deceived or lose heart when we see weeds among the
wheat, truth and holiness mixed with error, injustice
and sin. For now, He makes His sun rise on the good
and the bad (see Matthew 5:45). But the harvest
draws near. Let’s work that we might be numbered
among the righteous children—who will shine like
the sun in the kingdom of the Father.
SUNDAY MASS READINGS
1st Reading Wisdom 12:13, 16-19
God has shown himself to be a God of justice and mercy.
Responsorial Psalm Psalms 86:5-6, 9-10, 15-16
R. (5a) Lord, you are good and forgiving.
5 You, O LORD, are good and forgiving,
abounding in kindness to all who call upon you. 6 Hearken, O LORD, to my prayer
and attend to the sound of my pleading.
R. Lord, you are good and forgiving.
9 All the nations you have made shall come
and worship you, O LORD,
and glorify your name. 10 For you are great, and you do wondrous deeds;
you alone are God.
R. Lord, you are good and forgiving.
15 You, O LORD, are a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in kindness and fidelity. 16 Turn toward me, and have pity on me;
give your strength to your servant.
R. Lord, you are good and forgiving.
2nd Reading Romans 8:26-27
The Spirit intercedes for us with God.
Gospel Reading Matthew 13:24-43

ST. CECILIA’S GOT “FORMED”
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. (Jeremiah 1:5)
God is a potter who wants to form out of the
clay of our lives something beautiful.
Formed.org is not just a website to teach us
intellectual ideas or Catholic doctrine, but an
instrument God wants to use to form us into
the persons we were meant to be. I’m excited about this
organization that we have contracted with to be available
to our parish providing parish good solid catholic
formation. I hope you will take the time to look at it.

the parking lot.

With grief, we announce that Fr. Scott Pontes, the week-
end associate priest at Saint Cecilia will no longer be with

The Sacrament of Confirmation dates are still yet to be
determined. At this moment we ask that students begin to
hand in all their materials to receive the Sacrament of
Confirmation found in the Parent’s Handbook. Those
students that have handed in their documents do not need
to hand in anything else. The documents asked for are: the
saint report, service hours, Continued
Confirmation sponsor and the letter explaining why you
would like to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
These documents will need to be handed in before each
candidate has their Confirmation interview. Confirmation
interviews will be scheduled in August using sign-up
sheets on Flocknote.
Finally, all Sacraments will be received in the
Church. All individuals that enter the Church must
have a face mask.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the

16º DOMINGO DO TEMPO COMUM
A liturgia do 16º Domingo do Tempo Comum
O Evangelho garante a presença irreversível no
mundo do “Reino de Deus”.
A segunda leitura sublinha, doutra forma, a bondade
plena.
