SUMMARY: What the collaborative economy is, why businesses need to wake up and start engaging with it, how your business can become collaborative, some great examples, and &Share - the resource sharing platform for organisations. VOICE NOTES: 1. Who has heard of the collaborative economy? 2. It includes all of these things. And most of your have heard of them or been involved in them. 3. At it's core, I would define it as these three things. 4. So now we know what it is, the question is "why should you care?". There are three reasons: social, environmental, and economic. 5. Well, firstly, it's inevitable. It is happening and seems here to stay. Castorama CEO Veronique Laury went as far as saying in Paris yesterday that companies like her's were at the mercy of consumers as they decide how and where to get the goods and services they need in the coming years. That's a pretty bold statement. 6. You will recognise graphs like this. This is peak oil. But you can plot one for most resource on the planet. Basically, we are sourcing less and less, and using more and more. If we want to maintain or improve our quality of life in the future we need to use resources better. And sharing and collaboration are great ways to do this. 7. Then there is the economic argument. World's biggest hotel chain? 8. Couchsurfing. AirBnb is probably the fastest growing. 9. How much VC investment has the collaborative economy seen over the last few years? 10. over £1.2 billion. So this is not a insignificant slice of the economy... it's huge and growing fast. 11. We have a combination of social and technological factors leading to this - motivating and enabling people to collaborate more closely. 12. Now for some examples. Wikihouse. 13. WikiSpeed - $17k 100MPG sports car. In 10 years time, if you are a conventional car manufacture and you can't compete with this on price and efficiency how are you going to stay in business? 14. Open Value Networks. 15. Major car manufactures are all bringing out car sharing offerings. 16. GE releases all it's patents for domestic use and someone invents a better aircon unit. 17. You can now submit your lego creations to the website, they are voted on, and the most popular go into production. Amazing! 18. This is the platform I'm working on. 19. The problem: Currently organisation are silos. down time is waste. 20. Our goal is to allow them to collaborate and share, creating greater liquidity, efficiency, and innovation, while reducing environmental impacts. 21. We are developing a web platform to enable this: &Share. 22. Finally, 3 ways your org can engage. 23. Enable people don't just hand them solutions. 24. Add value by creating community around products. 25. Seek mutually beneficial relationships.
