#02 Carbon Labelling
Bagged and Bulk Rugby cement is now carbon labelled. Thesecertifications allow users tounderstand the CO2 reductionbenefits of CEM2 blended cements.
#03 Chipped Tyres
Used tyres are chipped and used as an alternative source of energy in our main cement production plantin Rugby. This began in 2007 andsaved around 23,000 tonnes of CO2emissions last year, the equivalentto the CO2 emissions that around9,000 cars produce in a year.
#04Compliance
All major CEMEX projects aresubject to an Environmental ImpactAssessment process as part of theapplication for planning permission. As such, CEMEX carried outassessments for 8 projects in 2009.For cement and aggregatesapplications, these assessmentsalso usually include socialimpact assessment.
#05 Conserving Primary Aggregates
At least a quarter of a million tonnes of by-products such as fly ash areused in blended cement to reducethe need for quarrying primary raw materials. Pulverised fuel ash(PFA) is a by-product of coal-firedpower stations.
