The Cell

What am I made of?

Maryland Science Content Standard

• Gather and organize data to defend or argue the position that al living things are cellular (composed of cells) and that cells carryout the basic life functions.

Objective

Students will identify various cell organelles and describe their functions ***************************************•Organelles: Cell structures that carry out specific functions within the cell.

Notebook

• Title: What is a cell?• Date: 04/18/23

The Cell

• The cell theory states:– That all living things are composed of cells– Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in

living things– All cells are produced by other cells

Activity• Use the Cells Alive program to explore the

different cell organelles• Draw a cell, using chalk, on your table top

– Label each organelle– in 5 words or less write the function of the

organelle under the label

Activity• Nucleus• Nucleolus • Chromatin*• Mitochondria• Endoplasmic Reticulum• Cytoplasm*• Cell Membrane

• Vacuoles• Lysosomes• Ribosomes• Golgi Body• Chloroplast• Cell Wall

* Not found in The Cell Game. Look in the “Cells to Heredity” book.
