With a history that extends beyond 100 years,
Austral Bricks has a proud tradition of 100% Australian
ownership. Today, Austral Bricks’ operations consist
of 18 factories, across six states.
Our manufacturing plants combine state-of-the-art
technology with the company’s long experience in
the manufacture of bricks and pavers to exacting
Australian standards, resulting in a world-class
high-quality product.
Each batch of bricks and pavers are graded at various
stages of the manufacturing process and laboratory
tested to make sure our products meet strict Australian
standards. Recognised as one of Australia’s leading
manufacturers of quality clay building products,
Austral Bricks’ resources extend beyond factories
and clay reserves, to its team of dedicated employees.
A national research and development program
co-ordinates all new product development activities
to ensure that Austral Bricks continues to build its
reputation for delivering top quality, innovative products
that address the needs of the building and construction
industry. From humble beginnings, Austral Bricks has
grown to be one of the leading, quality clay product
manufacturers in the world and a truly great Australian
success story.

Building a Sustainable Future
In recent years there has been increasing concern about global warming,
pollution levels and dwindling natural resources. Your choice of building
materials can have an impact on our environment for generations to come.
Austral Bricks is committed to strengthen its environmental performance through
collaboration with the Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW.
The Sustainability Advantage Program helps organisations understand sustainability
and strengthen their environmental performance. The program is a business support
service from the Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW.
Bricks are the Natural Choice
Long life. Bricks stand the test of time. The evidence
of that is all around us.
Low maintenance. Face brickwork doesnt require
special cleaning, painting or protective coatings
to maintain its good looks.
Durable. Bricks are immensely strong, resisting fire
and impact damage, and vermin or termite attack.
Healthy. Brickwork is inert, emitting virtually no
chemicals or gases.
Reusable. Bricks are one of the few materials that can
be reused (not just recycled) with their original
qualities intact.
A Sustainable Industry
Abundant. Bricks are made from clay and shale,
our planet’s most abundant materials.
Low impact. Our raw material quarries are carefully
controlled to minimise environmental impact and
ensure the land is rehabilitated.
Energy efficient. Most brick production is highly
automated, using clean natural gas in highly
efficient kilns.
Conserving water. Where possible our plants
recycle water and use rainwater collected on site.
Recycling waste. Clay waste and misformed bricks
are recycled back into the manufacturing process.

The Eight Advantages of Full BrickAdvantage 1: Full brick houses are cooler in summer
Cool relief. That’s the feeling you get entering a full brick home on a hot summer day. The dense mass of full brick walls absorbs and stores heat energy, delaying the passage of heat through the wall. That’s why a full brick wall stabilises internal temperatures, “ironing out” the highs and lows.
Advantage 2: Full brick houses are warmer in winter
In winter, the inner layer of a full brick wall comes into its own, absorbing, storing and slowly releasing heat that is generated inside the house. As the temperature falls the brickwork slowly releases the stored heat into the house. The result is a natural level of comfort without having to constantly resort to heating.
Advantage 3: Full brick houses are a haven of quiet
Your new full brick home will be a haven of quiet in an increasingly noisy world. The two brick layers in a full brick wall create a very effective barrier to external sounds. Brick walls between rooms or zones of the house reduce the spread of sound within the house.
Advantage 4: Full brick houses are solid, safe and secure
Safety and security rates highly with full brick home owners. They appreciate the solid construction, high level of natural comfort, and the fire resistance of brickwork. Unlike some building materials, bricks do not give off any gases or chemicals. More reasons to breathe easy with full brick.
Advantage 5: Full brick houses are low maintenance
It’s a given that brickwork is a solid form of construction, that lasts a lifetime and longer. Full brick takes this legendary durability to another level. It not only resists the bumps and scrapes of everyday life with the most minimal maintenance and also provides the framework for generations of additions and extensions.
Advantage 6: Full brick houses are termite resistant
Full brick home owners sleep soundly knowing that the chewing sound in the middle of the night is not termites but just one of the kids raiding the fridge. That’s because full brick walls on a slab dramatically reduce the amount of structural timber, especially at the vulnerable ground level.
Advantage 7: Full brick houses are timeless
It takes time, experiences and memory before a ‘house’ will stand out as a ‘home’. The solidity and comfort of a full brick house will linger in your family’s collective memory. Full brick houses are built to last. In years to come your full brick house will stand out as ‘home.’
Advantage 8: Full brick houses are a unique investment
Full brick houses attract a premium price over a ‘comparable’ brick veneer. But you don’t have to wait for that to reap the financial rewards of full brick, including low maintenance, no repainting of face brickwork, and the potential of lower heating and cooling bills
What is a full brick house?
Simply, the external walls are constructed with two layers
(‘leaves’) of bricks, separated by an air gap (‘cavity’).
Most people choose to also build the walls between rooms
in brick to maximise the benefits of full brick construction.
Inside and out, a full brick house looks like any other. The
exterior can be face brickwork, or rendered and painted,
or a blend of render and face brickwork. Internally, most
people choose to plaster and paint.
That’s why we say your next home deserves full brick,
the gold standard in housing.
Solar absorptance Rating:
In the design of energy efficient buildings, the architects
and consulting engineers need to be able to calculate
the heat loss or gain of materials used to construct these
buildings. For this reason, our product range has been
categorised into three (3) colour groups, Light (L), Medium
(M), Dark (D) and an index value has been given to each
group to assist with engineering calculations.

GovernorsThe Austral Bricks Governors Range of sandstocks is crafted with all the traditions and experience that only one of Australia’s largest and most experienced brick maker can offer.
Like the first sandstocks made in colonial times,
Austral Bricks Governors are solid with a double facing;
only authentic sandstock have these unique features.
What makes a sandstock brick different to a normal
brick is in the forming process. The soft clay clot
is firstly rolled in sand prior to being “thrown” into
a mould called a stock, hence sand-stock.
At Austral Bricks, we use only the finest quality clays
and shales to give the Governor sandstock their
special appeal. After careful mining Austral Bricks
extensive reserves at Horsley Park, the clay and shales
are blended and then soured for up to twelve months
before use. Each of our clay blends is the result
of decades of refining the process to ensure the
highest quality product and colour are achieved.
Austral Bricks is the only Australian brick manufacturer
to utilise the famed DeBoer sandstock press from
Holland. This ensures our unique finish on the
entire range.
The Dutch are recognised around the world as the
masters in sandstock production. They have a tradition
that dates back to the 16th century. A tradition that
only Austral Bricks Governors can deliver.
Many manufacturers call their bricks sandstocks but
only Austral guarantees the authenticity, quality and
superiority of their sandstocks with a 25 year structural
Certificate of Guarantee. The certificate is presented
to each home builder on purchase of any of the
Austral Bricks Governors sandstocks.
