Shibori, a Japanese word that came from the verb root shiboru, which means to wring, squeeze, press, refers to the many ways of embellishing textiles from the shaping of cloth to securing them for dyeing. This book documents various types of fabric manipu-lated using the shibori technique to produce different interesting textures and patterns. Rather than treating cloth as a two-dimensional surface, shibori turns it into a three-dimen-sional form through methods such as folding, pleating, twisting and plucking. The resultant cloth is then secured by methods such as knotting and binding.

Shibori is thus an art that acknowledges and explores the piable nature of textiles and their ability to be created into a great variety of different shaped and resisted designs, add-ing a unique character to each and every one of them.
