PROS and CONS of TEMPERAPro:

-Water-based (less sticky to clog our pipes)-Easy clean up-Fast drying -Inexpensive

-May be overpainted-Mostly opaque

-Works well on paper-May be mixed with egg yolk and dry pigment for

more permanence

Examples of Tempera in History:

• Super popular in the Middle Ages was egg tempera: using dry pigment mixed with raw egg yolk to make a permanent paint. Oil paint took over during Renaissance.

BIO• Takashi Murakami was born 1962 in

Tokyo, Japan. Has BFA, MFA, and PhD from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He is a traditionally trained artist.

Hmmm…this looks familiar…In 2003, partners with Louis Vuitton (Marc Jacobs is designer) for a line of handbags. They are limited editions, the cheapest cost $250.00 for a wallet and sell out.

• Influenced by Manga and Anime, Murakami invents an art movement that deals with the graphic, flattened forms of Japanese art and the emptiness of Japanese society.

sketchbook prior to starting the painting.
