Kermanshah province with an area of 24,500 sq km (nearly 1.5 percent of Iran), located in mid-west of Iran in Zagros Mountain range, is home to more than two million people. It is bounded on the west by Iraq. It includes 13 towns, with Kermanshah city being the provincial capital. The province is on average 1,200 meters above sea level and 525 kilometers away from Tehran. The local language of the province is Kurdish with different dialects. The religion of most of the people is Shi'a Muslim.
