I am glad to learn that "National Press Day" is
being observed on 16th November 2018 in the
Islands together with the rest of the Country. The
existence of free and responsible press is essential
for the welfare of the society and vital for
parliamentary democracy. The role of the media
which is considered to be the "Fourth Pillar" of
democracy therefore is of immense importance for
the all-round development of the country.
During the last two decades as the media
environment has become increasingly digitalized,
the changes in contours of journalism have brought
with itself a new blend of challenges. The
deliberation this year will rightly focus on the theme "Journalism Ethics and Challenges
in Digital Era".
On the eve of "National Press Day" I extend my best regards to all press/media
persons for their immense contribution to journalism. I also call upon the media to
pursue duties effectively without fear and favor following the dictum of freedom with
responsibility, towards the welfare of citizens of A&N Islands.
