THE TRAINING FOUNDATION

‘Professionalising Learning and Development’

Having held senior L&D roles in two major Banks with some 400 TAP-qualified trainers, I'd say that applying TAP methodology resulted in a 30-40% improvement in design, learning and delivery Sandra Penfold Global Head of Learning, Risk and Compliance (ex-HSBC & Barclays)

1. Before the 1990’s,

trainers roamed the

corporate corridors

in search of people to bore

to death in lecture rooms...

there were no objective

training quality standards

2. In the 1990’s, research into

what makes a great trainer led to

the launch of the learner-centred

TAP training delivery and design

models (Trainer Assessment

Programme). Enabling objective

assessment of trainer

performance, TAP quickly

attracted supporters across the

private and public sectors

3. Early adopters included Tesco

(500+ trainers re-trained)

learndirect (600+),

the NHS (2,600+ across the

Service)

and Barclays (200+).

All the time TAP was developing,

with facilitation and coaching

models,

and e-Learning models in 2000.

More than 29,000+ TAP

qualifications have been awarded

since 1998, assessed at

HE Levels 4 and 5

4. Word eventually reached the

Learning + Skills Council. In

2002,

Michael Stark, Head of Workforce

Development, recommended ALL

trainers to be TAP qualified

to guarantee consistency

5. The ultimate recognition

of TAP as an enabler of L&D

Quality Assurance was the 2005

Queen’s Award for Innovation

presented by

HRH The Princess Royal

What a day for

The Training Foundation!

6. Two further milestones

in recent years have been

role-based TAP Diplomas

(see Awards event video)

and TAP’s evolution to the

Training Accreditation

Programme

- the fast route to L&D

Quality Assurance

7. As the World of Learning

video shows (Oct 2012) TAP has

come a long way since the

1990’s -

millions of learners are today

getting better training as a

result of TAP - but there’s still a

long way to go!

Every trainer can contribute to

the Quality Assurance of L&D by

achieving a TAP Diploma and

qualifying to be an

Accredited L&D Professional
