MANGALURU: District in-Charge Minister B RamanathRai inaugurated the concre-tised road from Ambedkar Cir-cle to Bunts Hostel on Mondayand the road is free for themovement of vehicles.

One metre width divider hasbeen placed on 424 metre fourlane road, which has been de-veloped at a cost of Rs 1.96crore.

MANIPAL: Urban Develop-ment Minister Vinay KumarSorake directed officials tobe prepared to tackle waterwoes during peak summer.

Briefing reporters, afterchairing the tri-monthly KDPreview meeting on Monday, hesaid some areas in the districtwould undergo the brunt ofdrinking water scarcity owingto the dryness and evaporationof the existing water sources.

He called upon the officialstobe equipped withall possiblemeasures to encounter thedrinking water problems.Pointing out that an integratedaction plan worth Rs 690 croreis being prepared to providethe permanent drinking waterfacilities to the rural areas, theminister said that the proposalwould be submitted to the gov-ernment. Asserting that the

work of Varahi irrigation proj-ect is under progress, the min-ister said that the work ofaround two kilometre distanceis pending for completion. Thework would be completed byMarch end and water would beflown in the canals in themonth of April.

Deputy Commissioner DrVishal added that the compli-cations concerning the forestand revenue, pertaining to theirrigation project is cleared.The minister added that UdupiCMC is included in the ADBsecond phase project, whereinRs 80 crore would be releasedfor the purpose.

The Minister added that theexperts would be consulted tochalk out extensive integratedplan to makethe district secureagainst any probable water cri-sis by 2040.

As many as 20 farmers who

grow ‘Mattu Gulla’ on 16.20acre of land have suffered lossfollowing the intrusion of saltwater to the field. HorticultureDepartment Deputy Directorsaid that the loss is estimatedat a cost of Rs 26 lakh.

The farmland and horticul-tural growths in the areas likeKatpadi and Heeriyadka havebeen affected owing to the in-trusion of salt water into thefields. The minister added thatthe officials have been directedto immediately prepare the re-port and compensatethe farm-ers.

UDUPI: The Tebma Ship-yards Limited (TSL), the shipbuilding company has con-structed “FUGRO SCOUT”,the state-of-the-art GeoTechnical Research Vessel(GTRV) at its shipyard atMalpe.

The entirely made in Indiaproduct is being designed tomeet the competence of anyother foreign vessel. The mainpurpose of the vessel is to in-dulge in oilrigs and researchover the natural gas resourcesavailable beneath the ocean.

Vessel is a mini-drill ship ca-pable of drawing soil samplesup to 3 kilometres below seabed and constructed in accor-dance with the latest rulesand regulations of Det NorskeVeritas(DNV) and meeting lat-est International rules gov-erned by International Mar-itime Organisation(IMO).

The vessel is powered byDieselelectricalpropulsionsys-tems driven by most modernActive Front end Drives forbest fuel efficient operation.

It is equipped with a redun-dant dynamic positioning sta-tion-holding capability (DP 2)symbolizing fail safe operationand is built to Comfort ClassCOMF-V (3) standards with

quarters for up to 60 person-nel, an indication very highcrew comforts.

The technically specialisedvessel with many firsts to itscredit is built at the cost of Rs240 crore and is completelymade out of ship quality steel.The time duration that wasneeded to build the ship was 18months,whichwasintothewa-ter last month for trial.

The ship can be used in anyocean including Black sea, ir-respective of the variations inthe global temperatures.

Oil exploration being themajor purpose of the ship, themarvelous ship is being regis-tered in Panama and is beingowned by Dutch based FUR-GO Company.

The exclusively Malpe builtship comprises of two consolesin the control room. The divi-sions are called forward and af-ter control. The forward con-trol is used for navigation,while the after control is usedfor dynamic positioning oper-ation. The ship comprises ofthree floor accommodations.It comprises of 37 cabins andcan accommodate 60 crewmembers.

The 4,500 tonne weighingwith four square meters space,

the ship with one-year warran-ty from Tebma has palatial en-gine control room. The speedis 24.3 km per hour. The mainmachines and the propellantswork with 690 volts power.

The engine room being theheart of the ship, wherein thefour generators of 2000 kilo-watts work together to gener-atepower.Besidesthedrill tow-ers positioned on the otherlayer of the ship is controlledby hydraulic, which is connect-ed to switch boards and laterto the control rooms.

The control room is fullycomputerised, which directsthe stop, run and other enginemovements.

The engine room also com-prises of six thrusters. (Athruster is a propulsive deviceused by spacecraft and water-craft for station keeping, atti-tude control, in the reactioncontrol system, or long-dura-tion, low-thrust acceleration).Two of the thrusters work inthe main proportion.

The ship can drill 3,000 me-ters at sea bed level. Thesethrusters can be positionedanywhere in the ship.

The galley (kitchen) is pat-terned in the European formatwith cold storage that works at

-25degreecentigrade.Thespe-cialty of the galley is that it iselectrical and works on diesel.

The FURGO project direc-tor Graeme Alexander saidthat the company has invested120 million US $ on the project( for two ships) and the 60 mil-lionUS$ontheparticularship.The ship would go to NMPT tofurnish the immigration for-malities and later will go to Sin-gapore and from there to Viet-nam.

The company has the proj-ect at Vietnam and later to Ice-land. The company has boughttwo Indian built ships, whichincludes the FURGO Voyagermanufactured by Tebma. TheearlierpurchasewasinDecem-ber 2013.

Tebma operations vice pres-ident Aboobaker P said thatas many as 300-350 peopleworked daily for the construc-tion. The Tebma has alreadybuilt 18shipsandtenhave beensupplied to Indian Navy.
