Heraldry• Heraldry is the act of emblazoning

(decorating) or assigning a coat of arms

• A coat of arms is a design placed on tunics, armor, flags, etc.

• Used to identify a family, army, social group when no one could read

First used in the Middle Ages to identify enemies on the battlefield

• Later developed into images on shields, color of mane in helmets, horse decoration, etc.
