It is with great pleasure the committee of Sydney Indoor Hockey Association Inc Present the 2018 magazine. We hope you find it interesting and informative. The 2018 world cup held in Germany last February has kicked off the year big time for indoor hockey. In general this version of hockey is very big in Europe as a winter sport given you can not play field hockey in snow. It is very rewarding that our Australian teams were competitive in the light that there are very limited local high level competitions to practice.
On that note our men’s and women’s competitions which are a stepping stone to state level will again be our focus for promotion this year. We scrapped home with a new format for the men’s north and south competitions with combined finals. We will be doing our best to grow with that concept. We look forward to a great season and thank our No 1 sponsor JUST HOCKEY for their continued sponsorship.

THE RESULTS OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
The Northern Schools all stars championship is an annual event which started in 2010. The concept of the event is to select the stronger players from all the schools playing in the Mosman competition and the same for those playing in the Abbotsleigh competition. The stronger players effectively form a representative team for the venue to which they played in term 4 of each year. There are 3 games within each championship with representative teams from each venue being under 13, under 15 and under 18 girls. The championship is a filmed event and you can watch the games by going to www.sydneyindoorhockey.com.au home page and select a game from the player list.
Attention Head of SportThree indoor hockey games were held at the Marie Bashir gym Mosman which was a filmed event on the 18 March. Some may have received this information but better twice than not at all. The players name and school are listed an you might like to forward the link to your student or students.

Junior TeamsUnder 9sThe Under 9 Competition is directed at school children with no hockey experience. There are 6 players on the court including the goalie, but it is recommended to have 8 to 10 players in the team and interchange throughout the game.
Under 11, 13, 15 and 18There are 2 to 3 grades depending on the number of teams. Teams are made up of boys and girls in any combination.
Northern Schools' CompetitionUnder 13, 15 and 18There are 2 grades where possible, within each age group. U15 and 18 Mixed has a restriction of no more than 3 boys on the court at one time.
Senior TeamsMen's and Women's Premier and A GradeThese competitions are the highest grade. Preference will be given to club-based teams.
Men's and Women's B and C GradeOpen to all men's and women's teams below Premier/A Grade.
Mixed B GradeMixed B grade is strictly social - designed for girlfriends, boyfriends, families or groups of friends to play together. All players are welcome to play, from a novice to an Australian representative.
The following are brief descriptions about various competitions and the philosophy used when grading. A game is 2 x 20 minute halves and there are approximately 7 rounds plus semis and finals.
The important exception is that we do not encourage all rep players to play in one team. The grades are split into B1, B2 and B3, which is based on the final makeup and standard of the teams.Umpiring is usually at the lower end of skill level, but adequate for this social event that doubles as a lovefest. It is recommended to have about 8 players in a team, with 6 on the court with regular interchange. Mixed hockey for seniors has a restriction of no more than 3 men on the court at one time.

Indoor Hockey Men's Premier & A GradeShow me the Money! Moorbank 1 celebrates victory at the premier grade Indoor Hockey Grand Final receiving the $1000 dollar JUST HOCKEY sponsored prize.
For 2018 season starting in October we will again run men’s Premier and A grade at 2 venues. In the NorthMarie Bashir Gym Mosman from 5 PM to 7.30PM on Sundays. In the SouthHurstville Leisure Centre from 7.30PM to 10.30PM on Wednesdays. It is anticipated we would have 5 teams at each venue double rounded. The top 2 teams from each venue would make up the Premier Grade semis. The 3rd and 4th teams from each venue would make up the A Grade semies.Your thoughts on this format would be greatly appreciated.Clubs can nominate their preferred venue and the following is thought to be the most likely.
Please pass this on to those interested in Indoor Hockey.
NorthMacquarie, GNS, Manly, Sydney Uni, NW Strickers, Ryde.
