SPRING/SUMMER 2012 ‘A trend can be emotional, intellectual
and even spiritual. At it’s most basic, a trend can be defined as the direction in which something (and that something
can be anything) trend to move and which consequential impact on the culture, so-ciety or business sector through which it
moves.’Economical issues play a very important
role in today’s society and are becoming crucial because all the actions that we make today will affect everything
in the future. As a trend renewable energy is being used and introduced
constantly. Justifying this the Spring/Summer 2012 trend will be based around
sustainability and how much it is developing and moving forward
continuously. The topic is frequently being driven through the media and how significant the
role of renewable energy is in our lives.

Sustainability. The trend sustainability focuses on renewable energy and the sources that are continually replenished by nature, such as: wind, solar, rain and waves. These
resources develop forms of energy. There is a limited supply on fuel and societies are using fuels
more than they are being produced. This is where renewable energy takes place. The theme sustainabil-ity is reflected by the main sources for renewable en-ergy and each trend represents each one in very dif-
ferent ways. The motion, colours, and senses are taken on board. The interpretation varies from the actual energy source to the effects and after math they create. It is important that humanity is aware
of the technicalities and advances of renewable energy because it is the future. Once the energy sta-
tions are in place, the fuel is free forever. The earth’s natural elements provide the limitless
energy. The trends, Tidal, Turbulence, Raindrops, and Solar contrast greatly from one another, however the idea is that they all fall under the same umbrella,
in that they signify the renewable energy sources and highlight what today’s future is going to be.
TIDAL.Wave power converts the energy of tides into elec-
tricity and forms of energy. Waves have a huge movement of water; they are unpredictable and come
in many shapes, sizes and levels. As each wave passes a power generating appliance in the sea, depending on the size of the wave, it generates
power. Know as renewable energy because nothing is consumed.
The trend Tidal focuses on the movement of fabric and how it flows impulsively, reproducing the move-ment of waves. It is light, layered yet extrava-gant. Using curved like motions it is worn with freedom and spontaneity. The ocean like colours
and textures are meant to create a lightness feel with a consistency of a flowing action throughout. The patterns are created by the fabric itself and
the way they fall depending on swift motions.
TURBULENCE
Turbulence:’irregular mo-tion of the atmosphere, as thatindicated by gusts and lulls in the wind’
TURBULENCE.Wind Power has been in use for hundreds of years to propel, sailing boats, ships and windmills. It has now developed, and wind turbines are used in masses
as a device that converts kinetic energy from wind to mechanical energy. They are mainly situated on high grounds such as tall buildings and fields. Wind tur-
bines range from being vertical, horizontal and come in many new shapes and sizes.
Turbulence signifies uneven and random, just like the wind. The wind can be very unexpected and this trend focuses on the idea of wind being invisible but con-centrating on the aftermath of destruction. The look is uneven, jagged, and shredded. The feel is dis-tressed but it is worn quite baggy, with off the
shoulder and oversized bits and pieces. The colour palette is quite neutral and the trend gives off an
overall mysterious feel.
Raindrop: ‘A drop or droplet is a small column of liquid, bounded completely or almost completely by free surfaces’
Rain or hydropower is used to generate energy re-late more to hydro-electric concepts. It is the most common form of renewable energy. Rain power drives turbines to create energy. The most common form of hydropower are usually dams. Depending on the rain fall determines the height of rivers and
damns therefore the energy turnover. The Raindrop trend is supposed to be very subtle and elegant. Although rainfall can be heavy and
vast the results after a rainfall can sometimes be picturesque. The detail of a raindrop is beautiful. This is portrayed throughout this trend by using droplets of gems, sequins and jewels. It is more
about attention to detail, with touches of glimmer and sparkle. Accessories play an important role in the trend to add an effect of twinkle just like a
raindrop does to any surface.
SOLAR.
Solar: ‘Heat radiation from the sun converted into electrical power’
Solar power converts sunlight into electricity. So-lar panels contain arrays of solar cells that convert light into electricity. They are called solar after
the sun because the sun is the most powerful source of the light available for use. They can be installed in fields, houses, buildings and even bags. Because the sustainable lifestyle is increasing rapidly more and more businesses, family homes and production manage-ments are using the solar industry more and more each
day.Introducing Solar to the fashion industry is going to be a big input to 2012. Modern technology is playing a big role in this generation and the futuristic feel is making an impact. Solar includes panelled clothes allowing LCD lighting on garments, and it is very ‘In your face’. Extravagant shapes, and textures will take place, therefore the trends colours are kept to more of a minimal. It is going to create a feel of almost abnormality, bringing textures that have no yet be
physically worn. Solar panels will also be placed in bags, shoes and accessories to power devices such as
iPods. It is the cheaper and greener future.
