Six Months Post-FMC
It has been nearly six months now since we redefined Jenny LeBlanc’s job from being
Family Ministry Coordinator to Director of Christian Education. As you recall, the FMC
position was created as a kind of experiment, funded entirely from the Christ Church 20/20
capital campaign. The original plan was to fund the position for 3 years, and we have been able
to fund it for 4 years. Last year we evaluated with a congregational survey and some heavy
discussion in the vestry. We decided to cut the position from full-time to half-time, with the
same cut in pay. In redefining the position, we eliminated all the unique things that made the
FMC position so different, and put the emphasis on running our children and youth programs in
education.
The changes that took place on the first of this year have had an impact. There have been
many things that Jenny used to do, that she is no longer doing. I know I miss them. She does
too. And the congregation is beginning to notice. When we made the change, it was with the
hope that volunteers, either individuals or groups within the parish, would step up and take
responsibility for some of the events and programs that we’ve come to enjoy. Frankly, I wasn’t
sure if that would happen. That’s why I was delighted when the New Member Ministry
Commission, co-chaired by Louise Corderman and Ruth Brancolini, stepped up to host the
recent Ladies’ Springtime Tea, a program that Jenny started as FMC but was among the things
she had to drop. By all accounts the tea was a great success, and I see it as a wonderful witness
to what can be done in our post-FMC parish.
Jenny didn’t drop all of the extra things she was doing. She was unwilling to let go of the
annual parish retreat at Shrine Mont. She put a lot of work into that again this year, and it was a
wonderful, rewarding experience for all who participated.
As we continue to adjust to the new staff situation, I hope we can all remember that there
are more opportunities now to get involved and help beloved programs continue. If you are
interested in helping, speak to Jenny. I’m sure there are more things she would help someone
take on, as she did with the tea, advising and supporting to ensure success.
We may not be in the financial position to continue to professionally staff the inter-
generational activities, and other things that made life with an FMC so enjoyable, but we can still
pull together and have some of the benefits. My personal thanks go to Jenny for all she has done
for Christ Church and all she continues to do. I know that this transition has not been easy for
her.

June Birthdays 2014
Children’s Day
Since there is a Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, we would like to
make you aware that on June 8, Children’s Day is celebrated in honor
of children all over the world. Hug your child today and let them
know they are loved.
FATHER’S DAY
Father's Day, always celebrated on the second Sunday of June, refers to a celebration honoring
fathers and giving them respect for fatherhood, paternal bond, and their influence in our society.
Every day, we celebrate God, our true father, and thank him for our dads.
Third Annual Ladies Tea
The ladies tea was held on Sunday May 18 on a beautiful spring day. We had 43 lovely ladies who,
along with some of their friends and neighbors, brought either their favorite tea cup or a treat to share or
both! It was such fun sharing this special afternoon with our church sisters and friends.
The Thrift Shop Update
The Thrift Shop took in $3,773 for the first three weeks of May. We urgently need younger males who
have not only a vehicle but the strength to pick up our donations and unload them at the Thrift Shop. Home
furnishings are our biggest money maker and without them, the Thrift Shop cannot thrive or survive. Also,
with summer vacations, the shop is always short staffed. Perhaps this would be a good time for church
members who have never volunteered to give it a try for a shift or two a month (3 hours each shift). The
Thrift Shop is a big money maker for Christ Church and really needs your support. For more details or
info, please contact Cheryl at 582-5508 or 972-1891.
The Episcopal Church Women
ECW Plant and Bake Sale in April was a great success! The ladies thank everyone who helped (including
providing all the delicious baked goods) for their sale. After expenses, they netted $617.25.
ECW closed out another year of our regular monthly meetings with our annual field trip to an area historic
episcopal church. This year we traveled to King George and were able to tour two churches. Our first
church was Lambs' Creek Church where we were warmly welcomed by Joan Poland, an ECW member and
very knowledgeable docent. The history of the church has been well preserved and documented. We
learned some very interesting facts. The church is only opened for worship one day a year - the last Sunday
in August were they use a copy of the very rare "Vinegar" Bible (1716) and an altar edition of the 1661
Book of Common Prayer (1739 printing).
From Lambs' Creek we went to St. John's Church, a few miles away and toured that on our own. Again,
another church of simple, quiet, and reflective beauty. St. Johns has had an active congregation
continuously since 1869. Remarkable!
We ended our tours with lunch at Howard's Restaurant & Bakery - good food and most of us left with a bag
or box of yummy bakery items!
Thank you Father Jeff for arranging this trip for us. ECW will break for the summer and resume regular
monthly meetings in September.
God's Blessings to all for a safe and happy summer.
Christ Church Quilters
Interested in Quilting? Our Christ Church quilters are dwindling to a precious few and looking for anyone
that would like to join them on Thursday from 10:30 to 2 in ASH #8. You need not feel obligated to
become a member of the group; just sit in on a few of their sessions and see if it’s something you might be
interested in doing. The ladies would love to have you. Bring a bag lunch and enjoy.
The Sunlight Garden Club
We look forward to more Christ Church members joining this active club and invite you to join us for as
many of these events as you can. Meetings are usually held at 6:30 PM in All Saints Hall on the second
Tuesday of each month. Questions? Contact Margaret Smith, (540) 972-9489. Here is the last meeting of
the year, June 10: Meet at Chancellor’s Village, 6:30 PM to make patriotic arrangements with the
residents.

The Great Hall ~ Great Space, Great Price!
Over the years, all of you have experienced the spaciousness and enjoyment of having fellowship and
other church events (dinners and meetings) in our Great Hall in All Saints Hall. However, have you ever
looked at it as the perfect venue for a wedding reception or other large event at a reasonable cost? If not,
perhaps you should. Our splendid Great Hall seats 125 for dinner and can handle 375 for a standing
reception. We have an elevator for those requiring it’s use, a fully equipped warm-up kitchen, and
plenty of parking.
If you’ll tell your friends, neighbors and co-workers about this wonderful space and what it has to offer
(for such a low price) and ask them to contact our parish office for a walk-through of the hall, we’re
confident they will be pleased and delighted they chose our wonderful gathering place for their special
event. The application forms to be filled out are on our Christ Church website:
www.christchurchspotsy.com and click on Facilities. Rental info and contracts are also there for their
use. For additional information, contact Ruth in our parish office, (540) 582-5033.
Maranatha Touring Choir Concert
Please mark your calendars because on Wednesday, July 9 at 7 PM,
this wonderful choir returns to Christ Church before departing on a
several state tour. Our own Kristine and Steve, Hannah and Hunter
Clifford are a part of this unique group. You can’t miss this. It will
be a treat!
The Parish Retreat Update
The parish retreat held at Shrine Mont in early May was a great success. We participated with St.
Peter’s, Port Royal—Catherine Hicks’ church. The weather was beautiful. We worshiped, hiked,
relaxed, read, fished, ate a lot, had workshops on Benedictine spirituality, and enjoyed the natural
beauty.
Marriage Vow Renewal Opportunity
If you are celebrating a landmark wedding anniversary and would
like to celebrate it by renewing your vows on a Sunday in church
with your parish family, speak to Father Packard.
Summer Vacation
The Last Day of Sunday School will be on June 8, 2014. The Last Day of Children’s Chapel will be on
May 25, 2014. Sunday School and Children’s Chapel will resume on September 7, 2014.
Thank you to all teachers for a great year! It is your dedication to the ministry of our children that make
Sunday School possible. Also, a big thanks to Kris Clifford for sharing her wonderful gift with our youth
choir. We hope you all have a wonderful summer vacation!

Kids love crazy, weird animals…the weirder the better! So we searched the globe for the most special,
unique, rare, never-before seen animas we could find to help kids discover what Jesus’ endless love
means in their lives.
God filled the world with a lot of crazy creatures…including us! We will experience and be
empowered by all of the unexpected and, yes, weird ways that Jesus demonstrated unconditional love.
From healing lepers to washing the feet of his disciples, the Bible is filled with accounts of Jesus’ one
of a kind love.
When kids feel weird, different, or even lost in a crowd- nothing compares to the unconditional love of
Jesus! Join us for VBS this year as we learn about weird creatures and the love of Jesus.
Middle School and High School students will work as counselors and helpers in the morning and have
a program just for them in the afternoon. Registration forms are available at the communications center
and at the back of the church. If you would like to volunteer please contact Jenny LeBlanc at
fmc@christchurchspotsy.com or (540) 582-5033.
Click here for a Registration Form. Please note you must fill out a form, print it, and turn completed form in to Jenny LeBlanc or parish office.

Parish Care Commission Re-boot
The Parish Care Commission has been dormant ever Since Anne Parker’s death. We are delighted to
announce that Deacon Margaret has now been appointed to chair this commission. The focus of the
commission is to help provide support and pastoral care to members of the congregation. They will be
in charge of the Prayer Chain—the confidential prayer list that is not published in the bulletin. They are
also developing a ministry of providing meals to members who are recovering from surgery or other
disruptive life events. The newly organized commission will meet at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 24 in
room #8 of All Saints Hall. All who are interested are invited to attend. Your ideas for new ministries
are welcome. The commission was renamed as the “Parish Care and Health” commission under Anne
Parker’s leadership. As the parish nurse, Anne’s focus was on matters of health. We are going back to
the original name of “Parish Care”.
Fellowship Commission
We want and need you to share yourself and your time hosting Fellowship on
Sundays. Fellowship hour is a very important ministry as it gives us time to
socialize/unwind once a week as a church family. Talk to Bill Butler about
hosting and then sign up at the Communication Center.
